The Journal said that after the tarp was removed, a barge was moved closer to the ship, obscuring its name.
Quoting anonymous Navy officials, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and the Washington Post newspapers and Reuters news agency all reported that the White House asked for the ship to be obscured during the visit.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the claims, cited an email between US military officials which said that the ship “needs to be out of sight”.

So even if we were to believe he didn’t coordinate with Russia…
we know that he and his campaign
- knew Russia was helping, denied they were
- Did nothing to alert authorities about it
- Pleaded with Russia for Hillary’s emails
- Knew of Wikileaks’ disclosures ahead of time
- Did everything they could to limit cooperation with investigations into Russian meddling
- Have done nothing in regards to stopping election interference from happening in 2020

Mueller basically said the opposite.
He said he could not bring charges if he wanted to because of DOJ policy. But that policy would have allowed Mueller to state there was no evidence of collusion or obstruction, but they declined.

I have to wonder if trump either chortled or went into a major rant and rave when the USS McCain was involved in a collision in 2017 - prompting his staff to proactively decide not to remind the boss the McCain is stationed in Japan.
Either possible response upon seeing the USS McCain in person -mocking the McCain and it’s crew or ranting and raving about the late Senator - would be a political disaster for the GOP (but not in trump’s little mind)

I suspect the White House had a local Navy liaison offer assigned to them for trump’s port visit. They wouldn’t have had to work the issue through the Pentagon - and the top brass probably liked it better that way too…

Honestly this president is so nuts that describing it is more like a “yo mama” joke than like talking about a normal human being. That Trump, he’s so crazy, when he went to review a naval installation they had to write “Not the” on the USS John S. McCain!
