Discussion: Trump: I 'Had To Fire Flynn Because He Lied To The VP And The FBI'

What do you suppose would happen if they ever got Trump under oath?

He has no regard for the truth, and the oath doesn’t mean anything at all to him.

He seems intent on proving in multiple ways that he obstructed justice. Maybe it’s his military background but he confesses to more obstruction of justice by 9 a.m. than most people do all day.

To get excited about this, have to believe that despite his being a compulsive liar, this time he’s telling the truth. But McGahn complained yesterday that Sally Yates had not told him that Flynn had lied to the FBI. If McGahn didn’t know, it’s unlikely that Trump knew.

And if Trump knew Flynn lied to the FBI, that certainly implies he’s a pretty hands on executive. Not a big jump to think he knew all about Russia’s overtures to Trump Jr. in June, 2016 as well as Flynn’s conversations with Kislyak in real time.

If the lie Flynn told to FBI agents on January 24, 2017 was that he hadn’t talked to Kislyak in December about the sanctions and Trump states he knew that was a lie, I guess the question is when did Trump know that? And did he, in fact, direct Flynn to approach Kislyak?

“I had to fire Flynn because he was shocking to my moral universe. His dishonesty saddens and pains me, and I wish it to be known that all others who are implicated in this minor trial, were also terrible people who led me to believe that they were competent. Melania and I will continue to hold them in our nightly prayers.”

The events of the past two days have me seesawing between hysterical elation and despair. I am a small business owner and the tax bill will kill me. I’m into my scotch and water early today. But I am toasting Mueller and rump’s unending ability to shoot himself in the foot. Good thing the winter solstice comes soon and the days start getting longer.

Take the batteries out of your snark meter and put them in your '80s-name-remembering unit.

Add it to the pile. This is like pouring a third kind of sprinkle over the extremely thick icing on a perfectly moist cake. I’m sure the Mueller team is well beyond this orange maginot line even without this new legal argument.

No, one should be excited by this but should not expect an immediate result:

January 24th: FBI agents interview Flynn at the White House. Fynn, as Yates revealed Monday [in Congressional testimony], does not have a lawyer present during questioning.

January 25th: Yates is briefed on the interview by the agents who conducted it.

January 26th: Yates requests a meeting with White House counsel Don McGahn; it takes place in his office that afternoon. Yates recalled in her testimony this week, “I told them again that there were a number of press accounts of statements that had been made by the vice president and other high-ranking White House officials about Gen. Flynn’s conduct that we knew to be untrue. And we told them how we knew that this – how we had this information, how we had acquired it and how we knew that it was untrue.” She went on to inform him that Flynn had been interviewed by the FBI two days prior. “Mr. McGahn asked me how he did, and I declined to give him an answer to that,” Yates said.

There are things Ms. Yates could not say because of an active investigation. There is no out, here.

At what point does Ty Cobb and the rest of Fat Donny’s lawyers just serve him up on a platter with an apple in his mouth?

How can you defend such a moron?

This is why us lawyers are always telling our clients to shut up.

It’s very difficult to imagine that 100 lawyers prepping him for 100 years could get Donald Trump clear enough on some cover story to stick to it through 20 minutes of interrogation, much less all day or more, and not hang himself somehow. There’s just too much information to absorb and keep straight. He can barely string a coherent sentence together.
