Discussion: Trump Holds GOP Speaker Votes Over Pelosi's Head: 'I Will Give Her The Votes'

You don’t have one fucking thing to do with it so just shut the fuck up.

No, please let him go to lots of Repub districts and tell all his supporters that their rep is supporting Pelosi. Please!

Isn’t it just adorable how Trump thinks he’s the least bit relevant to any of this.

The day a single Republican representative votes for Nancy Pelosi is the day monkeys fly out of Trump’s butt.

Trump is like radioactive waste. It is useless, it is toxic, it cannot be recycled, it needs to be stored away in a hardened silo forever.

Um, Nancy’s got this, Donnie. You can piss off.

ETA: my choice of words is a happy accident :wink::wink:.

Nancy isn’t wetting the bed over her Speaker votes. That word choice is deliberate :smile::smile::smile:

This is life when you judge everyone else against yourself and your self is awful. You just can’t colossally betray yourself and all your colleagues in a long career for sheer greed in a way that would entirely obvious. That’s not a good plan even for a crooked person of average intelligence. Nancy Pelosi isn’t either and she’s certainly not falling for it, you evil ignoramus.

It certainly seems the leadership system is badly broken given the discussion on the topic in Prime (beta). Everyone is so afraid of both a new leadership and the disruption it will bring. The new Reps won their seats… not the old leadership who fell quite out of touch under Obama.

Whatever you say about her, I have a vague, intuitive impression that there’s a growing consensus that while the leadership should change and evolve in the near future, in the very short term Pelosi has skills that will be important, even critical, and the new folks are becoming persuaded of that. Just an impression but I have it. Certainly could be wrong.

No you’re right.

New leadership right now is a very bad idea. Things are going to get rockier, not steadier. We need experience running things.

ā€œā€œI would help Nancy Pelosi if she needs some votes. She may need some votes. I will perform a wonderful service for her.ā€

ā€œAnd, Nancy, if I grant you this request, someday, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter’s wedding day.ā€

Straight out of The Godfather.

There’s a French expression that goes, ā€œI see you coming with your big wooden shoes.ā€ (I know it’s not entirely logical.) The idea is you’re not fooling anyone. This is the kind of thing I want to point to on the increasingly rare occasions when people say, ā€œDon’t underestimate him.ā€

If I’m not mistaken, Pelosi just kicked Trump’s ass in the midterms in near historic fashion. Maybe Trump should be begging her for her help? But I do marvel at how demented Don has injected himself through sheer force of narcissism into a situation that has nothing to do with him.

I think you’ve hit it on the head, @mattinpa. There is no viable alternative, Pelosi knows this, and she will ensure she has the votes. She made a good deal with MoveOn.org, and even Marcia Fudge has gone in to have a quiet word with Pelosi.

Speaker Pelosi has this well in hand.

Trump is trolling Pelosi plain and simple. The last thing she needs in her bid to be majority speaker is his endorsement.

Too funny. Of course he would prefer Nancy ā€œNo Impeachmentā€ Pelosi.

I’m no Pelosiologist but I also think maybe she’s seriously thought about the future, retirement, or least de-Speakerizing, what’s the future of the party, all that. She’s been very cordial as far as I can tell with the new folks. If you genuinely acknowledge that it’s the changing of the guard soon, I’d think they could see making it a gradual thing. Again, just guessing on low information and a bit of life experience.

I can’t believe we’re even talking about Pelosi when Schumer in the Senate is the one, I, at least, have serious concerns about…especially after the Facebook story broke in the NYT. Why isn’t he facing some serious questions?

This is the Manchurian Combover’s way of poisoning the well: making it seem as if Pelosi has his ā€˜approval’ when he knows her competence is a real danger to him. This is his unique, possibly only, real talent; dispensing venom in multiple flavors tailored to audience.

NB: If Pelosi thought she needed Republican votes to assure her position she would already have them in hand; the Democrats have no Hastert Rule.

Well, it’s one thing to win once, quite another to have your constituents vote you back in several times.
