Discussion for article #244334

Trump may be an idiot, but his timing is impeccable.

He has an obvious gift for this sort of thing. Heā€™s like Palinā€”if youā€™re an idiot who lusts after celebrity you have to work twice as hard and bring more to the table. Just being an idiot in itself isnā€™t enough. Life is unfair that way.

Trump raises a good point. Rafael Cruz was born in Canada. Do you know what they do in Canada? THEY EAT FRENCH FRIES WITH GRAVY.

Americans donā€™t eat French fries with gravy. Cruz is a threat to our very way of life.

ā€œDonald Trumpā€ is an idiot, but heā€™s a fictional character whoā€™s running for president, with the role played by Donald Trump, a smart man who understands how this game is played.

Every other Republican running is being pwned on a daily basis.

Iā€™m not sure weā€™ve seen any of the ā€œrealā€ Donald Trump yet. We might have, or it might all be an act. I havenā€™t been able to come to a conclusion yet.

Sure is entertaining, though.

Ahhhhhhh the irony. An American mother and a Cuban father, born in Canadaā€¦ā€˜Oh Trump, youā€™ve jumped the shark!ā€™ An American mother and a Kenyan father born in Hawaiiā€¦speculated and lied about for 7+ yearsā€¦

You know, Iā€™d never actually seen Fonz jump the shark until now. Itā€™s far stupider than what the expression seemed to imply, but it still doesnā€™t hold a candle to The Rump, or to Carnival Cruz either, for that matter.

Iā€™m not at all sure about that. He inherited a boatload of money and so mismanaged it, itā€™s worth less than half of what it could have been worth with totally passive investing - a broad-market index mutual fund would have yielded far more than Trumpā€™s business ā€œgenius.ā€ Heā€™s certainly a narcissist with a good nose for generating publicity, but I donā€™t see much evidence of true analytical skills.

Iā€™ll give you ā€œsmartā€ in the sense of knowing how to get attention and assert himself like an alpha baboon. An operator, a game-player, at least in the more vapid realms of society. Butā€”not to pile onā€”heā€™s something of a total and constant fuckup, according to the financial folks if heā€™d simply let his inherited wealth appreciate heā€™d be worth about twice or more what heā€™s worth now, and nothing in his life indicates any sort of intellectual grooming or intelligence much above average. He seems to have nothing in his head but hazy, visual impressions of things. No particular deep knowledge, insight, understanding, nothing like that.

Nice-looking candidacy youā€™ve got thereā€¦be a real shame if something were to happen to it.

Can Cruz say that with a straight face? Hard to believe. In his case it seems like an instance of jumping the snark.

ā€¦as a frustrated fantasy fiction writer, with a certifiably boundless imagination, I can only say I am jealous of Realityā€™s ability to outcrazy even our most outrageous fiction.

Never in the history of politics has the term ā€œyou canā€™t make this stuff upā€ been more profoundly accurate on so many levels.

Although, I have to add, is anyone surprised this was coming?

Trump, the King Birther, versus Cruz the Canadian?

The All-American pull-yourself-up-by-your-daddyā€™s-millionaire-bootstraps neoroyal New Yorker versus this outsider interloper with the Hispanic name, a Canadian passport and a suspiciously castrato lisp?

Tedā€™s actually gonna be out-buffooned for the first time in his political career.

Gotta love how heā€™s concern-trolling this one. Heā€™s not saying he thinks Cruz is ineligible, heā€™s just saying a lot of people have concerns about Cruzā€™s eligibility, and he, Donald Trump is concerned that all that concern could be a problem, and would ā€œhate to see something like that get in his way.ā€ As far as heā€™s concerned, itā€™s very concerning, and thatā€™s a concern.

where?

But isnā€™t that Cruzā€™ real problem, too?

Trumps got the kind of chutzpah that isnā€™t a positive character trait to possess, especially when it is not offset by a little humility.

Self deprecation isnā€™t necessarily humility, either, to the Trumps among us. Its just another ego trip.
