If he had broken the law, then he would have been sinful

Oh, I love this one. Letā€™s see Paula White inform the Christians being persecuted in Eritrea for not choosing one of the state-sanctioned religions that they are breaking the law, must repent immediately and renounce their faith.

Trumpā€™s white ā€œevangelicalsā€ will give him a ā€œmulliganā€ for anything. For example:

Shocked? I thought not.

So Jesus was executed for what, again? Oh well ā€“ he was pretty dark-skinned. Itā€™s perfectly understandable theyā€™d crucify first and ask questions later.

I love Rev. Barber and Father Martin, SJ - they represent religion as it should be. I am, however, constantly dismayed that large interdenominational groups of religious leaders arenā€™t out in the streets protesting the destruction of immigrant families. They donā€™t have to mention politics or parties, just stand up for basic humanity. Whether it should be or not, religion is still a powerful motivator for large parts of the American population and they have an obligation to speak up loudly.

A sizable minority of Stephen Colbertā€™s audience on the Colbert Report didnā€™t realize that he was a comedian doing satire. They really thought he was a right wing ideologue. Crazy shit.

What with this and Jeff Sessionsā€™ decontextualized use of Romans to justify the DOJā€™s immigration policy, Iā€™m reminded of a joke Johnny Carson once told about Larry Flyntā€™s promise (to Jerry Falwell) to have more religious content in Hustler magazine: that Flynt had certainly kept up his end of the bargain because you open up Hustler and say, ā€œOh, my God!ā€

Did anyone ask this moran why, if Jesus did no wrong and broke no laws, the Romans crucified Him?!!!

Rev. Dr. Chuck Currie
:heavy_check_mark:
@RevChuckCurrie
.@Paula_White - who commits theological malpractice with nearly every word - advises the president of the United States.

Theological malpractice is an understatement!!! Her words are downright blasphemous!!! And iā€™m not religious at all precisely because of people like Paula White! My father was even a minister!!! This woman has no business (except thatā€™s precisely what it is - a business) speaking the word of God! Can anyone please tell me if her views of Jesus are typical of the modern fundamentalist Christian these days? How widespread is this BS?

Pastor pastor, please help me: I keep looking in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and nowhere can I find where Jesus said, ā€œLet he who hasnā€™t raw-dogged a porn star and a Playmate, after the birth of his fifth child by his third wife, cast the first stone.ā€ Is it near where ā€œJesus said, ā€˜Give your money to the rich. Take from the poorā€™ā€?

Trump should be classified as a Schedule 1 Dangerous Psychotropic Drug. He makes people lose their minds.

I want to thank Rev Barber for using the term ā€œChristian Nationalistsā€

I ran across ā€œPastor Paula Whiteā€ in several ā€œpastorsā€ at funerals of my in-laws in rural Ohio. I am a Lutheran pastorā€™s kid and my in-laws were raised in a variety of churches. After my father-in-laws funeral in 2000, I asked if anyone else was confused by what the ā€œpreacherā€ said. A few piped up and we had a lengthy discussion how he was full of it in any of our traditions.

Now there are no ā€˜country preachersā€™ at family funerals.

This is in no way an argument in favor of Whiteā€™s position; sheā€™d say that Jesus, being wholly without sin, died an innocent manā€™s death. He did not come to break the law but to fulfill it, as he says in the gospels. Pilate himself says that he finds no guilt in Jesus. But, just as others have pointed out, Jesus indeed regularly broke Jewish laws, not to mention social conventions (treating women as social equals; even treating children with kindness).

Because the Romans were a bunch of liberals who hate Christians, duh.
