Even though Trump hasn’t nominated many people. Why would someone want to be ambassador when they have no idea what the foreign policy is and it can change on a whim from the Mango Mussalini.

trump sees no reason for experts in diplomacy or ambassadors cuz he thinks he’s the stable genius and he can do it all by twitter or by an unsecured phone call.

Government is not like business and diplomacy is not like a real estate deal. This is why business people fail at governing. We voters in Arizona also fail to learn the lesson. We are now working on our 3rd businessman as governor. Evan Mecham was busted and removed from office for using his inauguration fund (state provided tax money btw) to prop up his car dealership in Mesa, AZ. Fife Symington was busted for a sleazy land deal that involved our now sainted John McCain and he did time in a white collar prison in Florence, AZ and learned to cook.(no kidding). Now we have Doug Ducey late of Cold Stone Creamery as Gov. and he is pillaging the state budget for a cut in business taxes…
Diplomacy many times involves deal mutually beneficial to both sides. It is not a zero sum game. Even the terms of the surrender of the Japanese at the end of WW2 had things benefiting them. And now they are a close ally, something trump doesn’t get. He’d like them if they were autocratic I guess.

Yes in fact I would argue that that is the core of diplomacy - that it is not a zero sum game.

That was one lesson people did learn from the Treaty of Versailles and the end of the “Great War.” France and Britain crushed Germany with war reparations, pushing their crippled economy to the breaking point and leaving the people destitute. President Woodrow Wilson tried to push back on that and practically predicted WWII would be the result.
It seems that at least some people involved in the disarmament treaties at the end of the second world war figured out that stomping on people already down in the dirt (with or without golf spikes) doesn’t usually end well for either side.

The difference between having an ambassador in country or having only a charge d’affaires running an embassy is a matter of degree but can be substantial, according to Ronald Neumann, the president of the American Academy of Diplomacy. Non-ambassadors can have trouble getting access to senior officials and may not be viewed as the legitimate voice of the president or his administration.
Since this misadministration turns everything on its head, some countries may decide that having a career diplomat as their main point of contact, instead of the kind of ignorant clod that DOTUS chooses for political nominees, might actually be an advantage. The Germans, for example, might be happy to make the swap.

Trump is the problem with his relationship with MBS solidified by his arms deal with Saudi Arabia. The administration needs trained, experienced, multi-lingual diplomats. Trump doesn’t even have his English language up to par, how could he learn to speak like a diplomat? That paragraph sums up the stupidity of his administration so well.

Jared has been practicing “free-lance diplomacy” for 2 years. That’s scary. Another scary thing is that Jared has been reading the President’s Daily Briefing and it is suspected that he passed on information to MBS. I don’t know if he still has the security clearance to continue doing this up to now.

It’s the elephant in the room. It’s about fucking time someone from the press contradicted Trump to his face by pointing out that there are no hard defense contracts to lose. The $110 billion arms deal to Saudi Arabia is fake news. Why are they so cowardly, or stupid, not to say this?
