Kind of hard when big pharma is pushing the other way…

Wow! That’s about $1000 for every state and territory.
Just think of all the 'mergency stuff each state can do with 1000 smackoroos!
They might be able to buy some office supplies for a month.

I remember years ago, when this stuff was just getting started, reading a journal article about abuse of fentanyl by anesthesiologists. The article argued for not letting abusing doctors practice ever again, because in their data series, 1/3 of the time the first sign of relapse was death by overdose. But I guess you don’t become a billionaire without a few bodies here and there.

Republicans, your fiscally conservative Congressman is going on a tax-and-spend spree.

Speaking of addictions, this movie seems interesting.

I bet he gives himself 10/10 for that speech. Mr. Trump, talk is cheap. Now, DO something about it!

Besides arresting Kapoor, the Fed’s should arrest every Doctor that took a bribe, and every drug rep who passed the bribe.

Lock 'em up…

Or for the Secretary of Health and Human Services to fly from Washington to Chicago (one-way).

A feel-good speech which will do nothing to help anyone. Typical. How many years did we live with the “war on drugs”? This is laughable.

Short, but decent article. The family “created” the “time-released, supposedly addiction-proof version of the painkiller oxycodone back in 1995.” They took and old drug (1917), oxycodone, a semi-synthetic opioid, and formulated it as ‘controlled-release’, which it really wasn’t to the astute addict, since crushing/snorting or merely chewing the tablet releases the full strength oxycodone, and can result in death.

The feds sued and won $635M for false advertising (2007). The company reformulated and continued their happy way.

“If we can teach young people, and people generally, not to start, it’s really, really easy not to take ’em,” Trump said.

So, are you going to do it through education? Get Betsy DeVos involved? Problem solved. But on that “not get started” thing - since a lot of people get hooked when they are taking pain meds as prescribed, it just might be a bigger problem than “don’t start.” And maybe, just maybe you’re going to need some money in the mix for counseling, prevention services, treatment, emergency nalaxone, training for first responders, and a way (maybe stop trying to get rid of the ACA, medicaid, CHIP perhaps) for people to pay for treatment.

But, of course, the speech has been made, and the topic will never cross your thoughts again, since in your world the problem is no more - when’s your next tee time?

Of course trump’s the only one who ever had a brother they looked up to…
Or ever lost a dear one (friend or relative) to addiction.

I will be so very relieved when he is no longer in office.

As for the opiate problem…just toss a few rolls of paper towels to the crowd. Problem solved. Yes I said opiate, not opioid.

“As Americans we cannot allow this to continue,” he said.

150 people die from opiate over doses each day
How many people are killed on a daily basis on our roads in fatal accidents?
OK I will answer my own question:

“Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled. More than half of all road traffic deaths occur among young adults ages 15-44.”
Road Crash Statistics - ASIRT.org
That number could be cut substantially by making folks put their phones down and turning them off when driving.
I am not trying to belittle the drug problem, far from it. I’m just thinking of perspective here.

I live with chronic pain and my MD offered a fentanyl patch to which I said “Nooo Thankeee” as I knew it only takes microscopic amounts to end one’s life. I hurt, yes, but hurting is better than the alternative.

With only $57,000 in the fund, it’s got to be someone really, really low on the swampland food chain. Maybe just tRump himself.
