I was born in Budapest in the fall of 1945, after my Jewish parents were returned from being marched to a concentration camp in Austria. Guess who sent them there - not the German Nazis, but the government ruling Hungary during 1944, a government run by the Arrow Cross Party, an ultra-nationalist, anti-Semitic, fascist-like bunch that my parents always said were worse than the Nazis. So someone like Orban coming to power is no big surprise, as the ideological strain he represents never really disappeared from Hungarian politics, it just remained quiet for a few decades. We here in the U.S. have a president who has tapped into long-dormant but still virulent sentiments in a very similar way. Let us pray that November goes the right (not right-wing) way.

Russia, of course, is a winner. But it is also the alt-right. The super-rich have found a nativist recipe that works: Mooslims, Migrants and Mire (of Washington DC or Brussels). It works! Orban has been killing with this formulation since 2014, and he even has openly pro-Moscow Jobbik to run cover. The formula worked in Poland, and more recently in Italy. Notably, they target enemies such as George Soros, who call them out. Hannity does the same thing here in helping Trump target media fire, e.g. Al Franken. As we see in the Cruz-O’Rourke race, this guy Jonathan Jenkins has crawled out from under the cryptocurrency rock, running Jobbik-style cover in the guise of “Indie” Party for Cruz.

The system works. We will again get a Managed Democracy-style election in 2018 unless by some miracle the US electorate becomes much more literate, numerate and politically engaged over the next four months.
