Which is why the GOP is trying so desperately to disenfranchise black voters?
To help them?
I’m confused, Donnie…
Oh yeah, baby. Things were never worse for black people in America. Never. The “strange fruits” of this moron’s imagination don’t have any relation to any facts or actual history.
Trump: “Jim Crow was better for blacks than Obama’s America!”
Trump: The Blacks are in worst shape, Thanks Obama. I will make sure they don’t get any better. I like Blue Lives Matter.
I think the interpretation that Trump is speaking to African Americans with this screed is off base.
He is speaking to an all or mostly white audience. The words he is using are speaking to his audience’s preconceptions. He isn’t trying to convince black people to vote for him, he is reinforcing racist stereotypes within his already convinced constituency.
This is a strategy (intentional or not) that is intended to reinforce the self perception of white people in his camp that they are superior to blacks and inflame their resentment towards an idealized racial enemy.
He ALWAYS talks to an all-white audience, because everyone else knows he’s full of shit.
Wow, Pastor Timmons really scared the crap out of Donnie.
No blacks in the lily-white audience behind him.
Or has heard the arguments he is trying desperately to remember and articulate, the arguments made by the likes of Thomas Sowell for decades, and by the supporters of Reagan, GHWB and W to persuade the African American community that they are better off with the Dixiecrat-Neocon-Trickle Down Party. He just cant be bothered to read beyond Breitbart’s regurgitated condensation and Cliff Notes version of these old arguments.
And the Trump crowds go wild…
Reality simply does not matter to this man. It does not register. He lives in a world of his own (and one that I have no desire, at all, to enter).
Slavery was a walk in the park! Are you kidding me? Compared to being paid for your hard work? The two don’t even compare, where’s the list for signing back up for slavery? I bet there isn’t even room anymore with the droves of blacks signing up. This man is worse than used douche fluid.
Oh, yes.
Trump is so out of touch with reality that he may convince himself, for whole moments at a time, that he is speaking to African-Americans, but it’s all directed at making a certain group of whites feel good about themselves and their prejudices.
And he knows this from all the Black Americans he excluded from his real estate projects.
Donald Trump informed black Americans that they are currently experiencing their worst living conditions yet during a Tuesday campaign rally in North Carolina.
Umm, what Black Americans? There don’t seem to be any in that crowd. Indeed, although Duplin County (population 49K)) is almost thirty percent black, I’d be stunned to learn that a single one of them was at this rally.
Having said that, look at those folks. They dressed up. For Trump. They may well be the only people in America who’ve ever dressed up for a Trump rally where the norm is t-shirts and jeans and red hats. It’s just kind of heartbreaking. Aside from the odd hurricane, this is likely the biggest thing that ever happened in their county in their whole lives.
It seems like he’s now parroting a sect of evangelicals who believe that black people were better off during slavery because they were cared for by their owners. That’s right. There are people in this country who call themselves Christians and actually believe this. They claim that the abolitionist Christians were the actual bad guys.
The largest group of Paleoconfederates, by the way, started in North Carolina, where he was speaking last night. The people like Bannon who are working for Trump (or Trump is working for them; I’m not sure which) know full well who they are speaking to and how to use coded speech to get their message across.
Really? Really, really? Hundreds of years of slavery isn’t as bad as today? Another 100 years slavery lite isn’t as bad as today? The last fifty years of a slow climb to full citizenship isn’t nearly as bad as the times we live in, in which there’s a black president and family living in the WH, many of the most beloved and admired Americans are black, more black youth (especially young women) are getting college degrees, and there are more opportunities in the workplace than ever before? Oh, wait, I see what you did there. For certain white people, this is the worst things have ever been for their white privilege.
Yeah, I mean really – they got fed, clothed and had a roof over their heads. What was there to complain about.
(Geez-o-pete, is Donnie a disgusting, deplorable excuse for a human being – and I use the word “human” lightly…)
This is the same pattern he’s been following throughout the campaign – come into an area, tell them how terrible they’re doing, then point to himself as the savior who’s going to fix everything. It’s paternalistic no matter where he does it, but especially offensive when he says it to African-Americans.
JHC. This is a ‘winning’ strategy?
