Several trigger happy militias roam the southern border. Trumpâs rhetoric serves as a wink and a nod to them should they go rogue then maybe the penalty for doing so would be far less severe than typical when committing cold blooded murder.

If the next election stems on who is purest in their willingness to stand up for bike lanes (which I happen to applaud, and am using as a random example), then Republicans will immediately go after those damn socialist dimnuts coming after your interstate (and, yes, that is snark). And if thatâs the question framing in Nov 2020, the results could be disastrous in huge swaths of the nation.
I know Republicans will assault whoever wins the nomination with outlandish bullshit ⌠itâs what they do. But for the middle of the road voter out there, a message of restoring normalcy to government would, based on my bump-ins with friends and family in the âshoot emâ panhandle (place of my birth, dear god), find surprising appeal. Democrats need to start making inroads in those areas again. Love em or hate em, Bill Clinton knew that and was willing to speak to them. The next candidate doesnât have to be Bill. He or she could be the most progressive of them all ⌠but they need to convince a huge chunk of the electorate they understand the norms that make our country function for everyone in a way that Dictator Don canât even comprehend and would destroy if given a chance. And that restoring those norms will be a fundamental drive of their first administration.
