Just yesterday this same very expensive, highly skilled political operative who has 40 years of experience getting people elected told all of us that Trump really isn’t this ball of stupidity we’ve witnessed since last July.

He likes to talk about being “allowed” to do one thing or another. He once said that Hillary would probably not “be allowed” to run. He talks about not being “allowed” to abuse protesters the way that they used to. They aren’t “allowed” to say things.
The verb means that a person is given the time or opportunity to do one thing or another. Since there isn’t a Grand Poobah in charge of every move that every person makes, the idea of being “allowed” to do something smacks of mom giving permission to stay up late on Friday night. This probably makes sense when you consider the authoritarian bent to the whole candidacy.

Amen, just this morning the Wapo had an article about Drumpf’s newly hired mouthpiece telling the RNC worthies that the Donald was just “playing a part” and was going to be pivoting to a more main stream persona for the general election, so much for that.
