Discussion: Trump Calls On Kasich To Resign: 'He's Taking My Votes'

Said it before: Kasich would be crazy to get involved in the upcoming sh*tstorm. There’s no way he can act as some kind of “unity” candidate because both Rump’s and Carnival’s people are going to feel betrayed. He’d be best served to wait until 2020. He has NO chance at success, brokered convention or not.

You guys know what ‘resign’ means, right? It’s not the same thing as ‘drop out.’

It’s possible that Tay has replaced the TPM headline bot.

Very true. While Trump or Cruz would perform horribly in the general election, I can’t even fathom how terrible it would be for the party if they handed the nomination to someone who might not even come in 3rd. That would almost guarantee that Trump and Cruz would join forces (enemy of my enemy) to destroy the nominee. I think they’d both take their voters and go home.

Using Trump’s logic, Cruz should drop out as well. In fact, everyone should have dropped out the second Trump declared his candidacy, since all of them would be taking his votes.

I think Trump got into this to stroke his ego and enhance his brand, then it grew way beyond what he expected, and now he has no idea what to do. He does not act like a guy who wants to be president. He acts like a guy who wants people to worship him.

That would be awesome. Dems would take back the Senate and the House, and we can finally get things done.

Feels awfully like tRumpley is getting ready to have a tantrum and quit. Let’s face it, he was never cut out for politics. Surely, it won’t be his fault that he’s been so mistreated. So sad, I was waiting for the one on one between Hil and Don, but I expect he’ll be done long before that.

Trump really just wants to be king of the USA. Since there’s no such role available he’s basically settling for the next best thing. Just look at how he behaves. Is there really any difference between Trump and the various Eurotrash, minor royals or various African/Middle Eastern princes?

That’s highly doubtful. Trump can’t quit at this point even if it’s what he wants most. He has so thoroughly trashed the Trump brand, and the only path to relevance will be his adoring, batshit supporters. After its all said and done, no one else will want to touch his trashy brand except his followers. The one thing he could do to lose their support is to deny them the greatest jobs president of all time. These people spend their lives drenched in conspiracy theories and the politics of white grievance. If Trump “betrayed” them by dropping out, he’d have no one to market to and a brand about as respected as the KKK. He literally can’t drop out.

There was an astonishing “interview” with Bob Woodward and Bob Costa (I believe in the Washington Post) which would have to be read to be believed.

The scary part of the entire interview is the “fit” between Trump and his followers, together with the insane utterances of Trump…See below:

["While the interview was extensive, Woodward and Costa didn’t press Trump on the violence at rallies, his campaign manager who was charged with battery for an alleged attack on a reporter, his plan to ban all Muslims from entering the country, his controversial stance on abortion, nor his advocacy of birtherism.

Speaking with Woodward and Costa, Trump sounded the alarm about the economy, saying that despite indicators of improvement, the U.S. is heading for a “very massive recession.” His administration would cut taxes, and Trump said that he would eliminate the $19 trillion national debt “over a period of eight years,” which economists say is impossible. “I’m renegotiating all of our deals, the big trade deals that we’re doing so badly on,” Trump said.]

Who are, by and large, among the poorest people in America. Yeah, he’s a marketing genius, this guy.

The paragraphs and paragraphs of them trying to keep Trump on topic long enough to answer “When did you decide to run for President?” was genuine slow-burn terror. Even after all these months, I had no idea how far in over his head this guy has gotten.

“Republicans fear an unseemly internal fight…”

"unseemly???- a vast understatement I think. I mean you would have to go back to Taft-Roosevelt or maybe Jackson-Quincy Adams to have this debate request (by Taft or by Adams) to rebut an opponent: “Mr./Ms. moderator), I think I get to respond to the gentleman’s charge my dick is not all it can be.”

I agree. King in a ceremonial sense, not a responsibility sense. His biggest aspiration is probably huckster-in-chief where he can sell his steaks, wine, hotel rooms, etc to adoring fans. Get their adoration and their money.

The primary image that comes to mind is a swimmer floundering just before he goes down for the third time, caught by an undertow of his own creation.

No mixed metaphors here!

Hey Donald, how do you spell “entitlement”?

I wonder if some in the rust belt internalize this as “I will bring back those many auto assembly plants from Mexico, and restore them where they belong, in Michigan” or some such.
He goes part way… doesn’t talk about NAFTA or Ford and GM’s betrayal of American workers in specifics; it’s all about ‘deals’ in the abstract. He shadow boxes with reality in a way that entices people who want to believe.
