In recent years MS-13 was wiped out in the Corona/Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens, NY near where I reside. About 35 miles from Brentwood. Informed citizens and good police work, coordination with NYPD and ICE as well as an assist from the Guardian Angels deserve credit. In a so- called sanctuary city no
less.

This is rough politics and reminds me of when the Democratic party lost a lot of support in middle class America in the late 70ās and 80s. This is how Giuliani was elected mayor of NYC.
When I was young and living in St Louis, violent crime was national news from NYC. There was an uproar over the Guardian Angles formed in 1979 with liberals decrying (with some legit concern) vigilantes. And I still remember vividly the uproar over Bernard Goetz shooting 4 muggers on a NYC subway car. Liberals denounced him (again with some legitimacy ā opening fire on a crowed subway car) but many who rode the subway in fear cheered him.
People have a basic right to feel safe in their community and providing safety is the most fundamental obligations of local communities. Communities terrorized by lawlessness, such as this gang in Long Island have no interest in listening to liberals (like me) lecture on the need to protect the civil rights of those they see as terrorists. Conservatives get this intuitively and are expert at exploiting it. We are not always so good at doing the necessary balancing act.

Homan has openly admitted that ICE has arrested a large number of illegal immigrants with no violent criminal record. Every minute ICE spends apprehending such people is a minute itās not spending getting truly lawless and violent thugs off the streets.

Probably one of the most dangerous things a person can do these days is call the police and report they're having trouble with a situation. At least you can hand a gang member your wallet. A cop pulls up to the driveway and just shoots you.* **
