I can’t help but think this stunt was the work of Miller. It’s right in his wheelhouse of ignorant puerile vindictiveness. The capitulation was complete and almost humble. Which makes me think someone (Miller) is in big trouble.

If they were wise they will give the dotard a break, but the reality all they care is to generate outrage, that’s good for their ratings, whatever happens to the country doesn’t matter, they don’t actually care for Trump either.

I’d be perfectly happy if the overblown rituals of SOTU’s were dispensed with permanently and we went back to a letter that served perfectly well for over 100 years, None of the speeches have produced anything memorable and the laundry list of proposals that go nowhere serves no purpose.

Boy, I hope you’re right. Now that Kelly’s gone, Miller’s probably the single biggest obstacle in getting a reasonable immigration deal. He’s like the little devil sitting on the bigger devil’s shoulder whispering evil thoughts that gets Trump aroused.

Thinking it over, I suspect that advisers talked sense into Trump, to let this one go. But I am willing to bet that we will see the same thing that we saw after Charlottesville, that after advisers pressured him into saying the right thing, he stewed for two days and went back to his original position that that White Supremacists are good people.
He will try some Wiley E Coyote grade stupidity as the original date approaches.

He struggled to get through a 9 minute statement a few weeks ago. I’m not sure he can handle a full traditional SOTU address, even if his handlers opt for strapping a defibrillator to his back.

He needs an audience, especially a friendly one, for feedback. One that’ll respond to his cues and mannerisms and that he, in turn, can play off of. While not exactly his base, Republicans in the audience will suit him just fine.
