My math sucks, but I don’t think that 1/1024 puts her in an elite category.
Trump shows his stupidity yet again. The DNA test won’t say which tribe. All indigenous people in the Americas from Alaska to Chile carry the same genetic markers because they all originated from a small number of folk who crossed the now submerged land bridge from Asia.
Trump claimed he’d only believe the test if he did it himself. Personally, as one who ran a lab and is familiar with safety concerns, I would never allow that blundering lummox anywhere near a biochemistry research lab.
In adfition to being a narcissist, trump is a garden variety insecure cowardly schoolyard bully. I have found that if the bully is directly confronted either verbally or physically (yes, i got into a fist fight with one 55 years ago) they show their cowardice. In my case the kid i confronted saw the error of his wsys and after some time we became friends.
In the long run trump’s abuse of Warren and indigenous people will backfire. He’s insulting women and Native Americans as a whole class. Insult enough different kinds of people you then severely limit those who will vote for you. That isn’t a viable political tactic. So far trump has insulted people from Central America, Native Ameticans, democrats, several high ranking republicans, women in general, anyone who may disagree with him, the EU allies, Japan and on and on… .
Exactly, she never claimed to be entitled to membership in a particular tribe, she merely claimed that her family believed it had some natve american heritage in the mix. She didn’t take this test to prove membership, but to counter repeated racist attacks by Trump. By misrepresenting her aim with this critique they are misrepresenting the situation they claim to be critiquing and are doing so in a way that enables Trumps racist rhetoric by painting it as comparable to Warren defending herself from repeated racist attack.
Sorry, I don’t understand. (I’m flummoxed!)
What do you mean?
The Globe reported that she’s 1/1,024
That may be but (1) it’s inaccurate; and (2) your comment is still opaque to me:
My math sucks, but I don’t think that 1/1024 puts her in an elite category.
Do u have proof?
Conveniently, I can just refer you to @tomdibble’s excellent exegesis.
Meanwhile, just so you know, your comment is still opaque to me:
My math sucks, but I don’t think that 1/1024 puts her in an elite category.
Though I upvoted him, here’s the Globe statement on the matter
Now notice that they didn’t give an exact # (that’s my fault for going there), but until there’s an actual number, there’s no idea about whether she’s in elite company.
Ty for that reference.
In this context, there’re really no such thing as “an actual number.”
Or if there is, please define it.
Just so you know, I still have no idea what you mean by “in an elite category!”
previously
I was wrong for putting an exact # to this, because as you mentioned before, there’s is no way to do that.
I’m not concerned about the exact number you invoked. I’m just curious about the “elite category” part.
Though you didn’t say elite, I was going off ur answer.
Was I wrong?
Did I comprehend it wrong?
Sorry, I can’t say if you were wrong because I can’t tell what “answer” of mine suggested the term “elite category” to you.
Was I wrong?
You backed up your claim, but it’s likely that I got it wrong.
Not interested in applying the word “wrong” here but am really at a loss as to how one can get from “has more Native American DNA in her than many people” to “puts her in an elite category.”
Maybe we can just agree to let it remain mysterious.
I think their going easy on Trump is made necessary by their lack of power. I’m willing to cut them some slack, and I bet Warren is, too. (After all, she’s practically one of them, I hear.)
Are you saying that she has more Native American DNA than most folks?
I’m (somewhat) curious by this.
Works for me
