Discussion: Trump And His Lackeys Land In Biggest Ethics Quagmire Yet With Nordstrom Dustup

This isn’t Russia.

The oligarchs moved into a vacuum - that’s how they did that. We don’t have one.

If we have to wait til after next year’s election then we wait but we will take the majority back and we will stop this if it hasn’t been stopped already.

But what’s so fucking infuriating about our political world these days, is that all this will result in is some hand wringing and tut-tutting from the GOP, some foot stomping from the Dems and the same old “both sides do it” bullshit from the press. Nothing amounting to punishment or political fallout will come of it. It sucks so much that it’s sickening. But, folks, our political elites have no rules, no laws, no fear and no consequences. So, let’s all bitch and plan the 2018 mid-term assault, but there’s no one watching the store in DC and nothing will come of this gross violation of the law and ethics.

I think the title should start out saying “According to some law professors, …”

He hasn’t actually be challenged on it yet.

“They’re doing things that there aren’t a lot of procedures necessarily in place for because we never expected this to happen,” he said.

I find that hard to believe. It’s Trump. Anyone who has been following his business “practices” could have certainly predicted this.

“I would imagine that the White House counsel probably had a fit when this happened,” Riley said, noting that Presidents are not immune from civil lawsuits.

“If the President makes these kinds of attacks a commonplace feature of his Oval Office or his White House behavior, he is creating for himself legal vulnerabilities that could get him tangled up during the entire course of his presidency because these lawsuits will be allowed to proceed,” he said.

Good. The sooner we tangle him up in litigation, the sooner he will be out of office.

Ivanka gets a break because she is pretty. But the reality is that the woman could have prevented the nightmare that we are living and that she knew it was coming and decided not to. And the only reason is because she is as greedy as her bros and her gold-digging mother.

The beauty about lawsuits is, every time Trump has to give a deposition he’s open to a perjury trap.

so-called judges in the judiciary?

The US isn’t Russia. Nothing is like Russia. But there are important parallels. For one, the US has been dismantling institutions since the Regan era. I believe the EPA is on the chopping block this week, and hey, what about those “so-called” judges. Russia is a transition economy, but now, with Trump embracing something similar to mercantilism, something that was almost jokingly mentioned after the Great Recession. What is interesting is that Trump sees a reverse economic march away from complexity (the course of the global economy for at least 200 years) to simplicity. Russia also has a simple, one-dimensional hydrocarbon-based economy.

If you remember the Prince song, Rasberry Beret, there is that line:

> She walked in through the out door.

WIth the US moving backwards to transition economy status, something never seen in history, the differences between the US and Russia are narrowing.

Why does very news site I go to, every story about Trump have his stupid mug as a banner?. Even though I scroll as fast as I can to get to the article, my eyes aren’t fast enough to avoid it. Seriously, I never want to see this man’s face again as long as I live (nor hear his cat whiny voice for that matter.) Can’t we have something generic in place of his face, like, I don’t know, a can of beans or something.
(There is a Chrome extension for this by the way, using kittens. Doesn’t always work.)

This is all feeding my wishful thinking that the reason the woman married to 45 has not moved, and won’t, and the reason he won’t divest, is because they have no intention of sticking around. He will either quit or be forced out, or be removed in an ambulance or hearse after a Twitter attack.

I’m almost gleeful to see Trump do this stuff. Republican congressmen are going to take to the lifeboats if it continues into the next election cycle., and there’s absolutely no reason to think it won’t.

You know this whole Nordstrom thing is really stupid. I posted a tweet from someone this morning who showed a statement from Nordstrom that said, in effect, that it had been in contact with Ivanka last year about the decreasing sales of her product line. In early January, it informed her it was pulling the plug. Business reasons. Yet the Liar-in-Chief still went after the store! What a dumbass.

It occurs to be that, just maybe, the American public felt that it wasn’t quite right to buy her clothing line when her father switched to politics and ran for POTUS, something Trump doesn’t realize at all, unfortunately.

Maybe Americans want a President to run the country, not his business. I hope more and more come to that opinion.

He’s going to have to march that idea past every other billionaire in the country who lives on something more than just making money from money.

We have a capitalist system in place with markets and a Corporate structure that most progressives believe runs the country. How is he going to get past all of that to a Russian oligarchy based on mercantilism here?

They had a communist economy and government. It collapsed.

We really aren’t collapsing, we really in general aren’t full of mad grievance against the world - that’s just Trump and his handful of endlessly aggrieved supporters. The ingredients aren’t here for him to be able to do this and there are more people with big money in the country than the Koch Brothers.

IF it’s not good for our bottom line, he’ll have one hell of a time making it happen no matter what it is.

David Corn at Mother Jones is wondering “Whatever happened to the Trump-Russia story?”

There’s also no coverage of this story from Russia about decriminalizing domestic violence.

Putin on Tuesday signed into law a highly contentious amendment decriminalizing violence against family members. Providing no bones are broken and the incident doesn’t occur more than once a year, beatings will now carry a maximum prison sentence of 15 days, or simply a fine. Prior to the signing of the amendment, such attacks would previously have been considered battery and the perpetrator would have faced up to two years behind bars.
