I just want to give a shoutout to the brave Congressional intern who yelled FU, Mr. President at Trump. This just a few days after Trump requested Americans be forced to stand up for him ala Kim. He’s hurt our democracy tremendously, but we’re not dead yet.
If one of these kids dies while in detention I wonder how they will spin that. Who knows what pre existing medical problems they have.

Under the law, unauthorized inward border-crossing is a crime: in most cases a misdemeanor and not a felony.
If they were dealt with civilly, they wouldn’t have to be detained.
What is a civil violation (and not a crime) is when people [enter the country legally but then] over-stay their visas (and so on).
