When one only sees the world’s problems as either black or white, we know which color Trump will choose.

Has anyone explained to Trump that except for a few countries in the world, citizens can leave and travel where they want? That’s it’s the destination country’s job that granted a visa to keep track of who comes in and when they leave? So what is he going to threaten Nigeria, Chad, Eritrea, Liberia and Sierra Leone with, take away our military presence? Yo Donny we buy oil from Nigeria, didn’t Rex tell you that Exxon does business with a lot of these countries?

Anecdote is what it is, I realize, but here’s a story:

About 30 years ago, I was living in Mexico at the time and was driving to Laredo for a visit with my family in Austin. On the U.S. side, I’d usually just be asked if I was a citizen and I’d answer in the affirmative, or they’d ask where I was heading and for what purpose and I’d tell them, and they’d just wave me through. This one particular time, though, after the usual questions and some suspicion that I was not in fact a native Texan (I don’t have a stereotypical “Texas accent”), the Border Patrol guy asked me to pull over to the side, get out of the car, and show my documentation. Fortunately, I had my birth certificate with me, and all was well after that. I did ask, though, why all the questions. The officer told me that they have lots of people from Canada fly to Mexico and then try to cross at the southern border by trying to pass themselves off as U.S. citizens.
