You break it, you buy it, Donny … keep messing with stuff you don’t understand.
I’m about due for a new car. Go ahead Donnie, jack up the $$$ on imports. I’ll buy BMW, Audi or Mercedes at triple the price of USA produced dreck. Have you been to a domestic car showroom lately? The fit and finish on these POS looks like they were completed by drunks on meth.
Question will be in the details and you can place bets that The Dumpster Administration will make a FUBAR moment of it.
What defines an import. A few years ago I was looking to purchase a new auto, what did I find. Just a few examples: (1) Ford, assembled in Mexico with 38% US sourced parts, (2) GM assembled near St Louis with less than 35% US sourced parts, (3) Hyundai, assembled in Alabama with just under 85% US sourced parts. Ford and GM are considered domestic manufacturers while Hyundai is considered an import, really???
So this his big news that will make US auto workers happy? And what about the US auto workers that work for non-US manufacturers in non-Michigan states? How is this going to affect them. And for that matter a lot of “US” cars are made north and south of US borders.
Truthful he’s not messing with it, the dumb fucks under him are. They pitch it to him that people will like him for it and businesses will give him money, and so he promotes it without any idea what it will do for anyone in reality.
I live in a large city. If you Google “Foreign car dealers” you get dozens of hits. I’m sure it’s the same in all cities, big and small. What of these businesses? Their sales drop off. Some fold. Some cut staff, or hours, or offerings. Service techs, salespeople, admin staff all are poorer, or out of work. Tariff supporters will counter domestic dealerships will get busier and some or all of those people will move to them. Oh really? Those domestic dealers won’t initially just make the current staff work harder, whip them more, up their quotas, offer overtime instead? Trump has an idiotic view of trade. He thinks hurting foreign competitors is a painless act. It’s not.
President Donald Trump predicted earlier that U.S. automakers and auto workers would be “very happy” with the outcome of the NAFTA talks.
The auto workers’ joy will be almost as boundless as their colleagues at the former Harley-Davidson plant, who now have lots of extra time to spend with their families, or their opioids.
Trump is the asshole you learned to avoid as a child, the one who nearly burned the house down after stealing his mother’s matches at age 3. When he tried to convince you to break windows in the house of the old couple down the street in second grade, you began to avoid him. By the time you reached junior high, you had nothing to do with each other. You didn’t even think of him unless his latest unsavory exploits were making the rounds in the school hallways.
The only difference is the last anecdote shared about the vague acquaintance from your youth was that he drove off a levy after getting high as a kite and nearly killing his junkie girlfriend.
But in this case, the asshole became the pawn President of master Putin. And there’s not a damn day that goes by that you don’t feel some impact from the crazy shit he’s up to now.
It’s just a global market for almost every product these days, mostly driven by inequality in wages that our laws and business folks have pushed for so they can continue to stuff their already full pockets with money money.
The probe is to find out who hasn*t paid their Dumpy commission .
Why waste taxpayer money on a charade? Declare everything from accounting to cocaine and peehookers a national security issue.
The White House said in a statement Wednesday that the president had asked Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to consider whether the imports of automobiles, including trucks, and automotive parts threaten U.S. national security.
It is astounding to observe the simplicity of this Dotard’s mind.
We know how this goes. Set up the tariffs and then grant waivers to anyone who comes up with a few hundred million under the table. At least now American companies get to play.
Does anyone really think this administration would do anything that benefits labor at the expense of big businesses? Really?
Translation: “Nice car sales in the US you have there. It would be a shame if something happened to them.”
Pay Trump a couple $$$ Million in direct bribes/protection money or he will crush your sales.
He is responsible for everything that comes from the West Wing … period.
