Oh my goodness! What are all the Cop defenders on TPM going to do with this one? Perhaps if they try real hard they can rationalize this one pro-Cop too.
At least he did us all a favor–including his shooting victim–and won’t put everyone through a costly and potentially ugly trial. Let’s hope the presiding judge gives him all the years he deserves.

He probably made a deal with the prosecutors and will only get 2 years probation.

Jesus Kriste on a cracker, I certainly hope not. If the max is 20 years I’d imagine he’ll get between 10 - 15 and some time off for good behavior. He deserves the full 20.
Yes. I don’t pretend to understand it, but South Carolina is apparently tougher on obvious cop criminality than anywhere else in the country.

He’s a Cop…he’ll get 2 or 3 and probation. You do what he did and you get the full 20. But I doubt you’d be charged with assault. More like attempted murder.

I think it might be due to the state (of S.C.) just may be angry that one of their own got caught and the evidence is too incriminating – such an embarrassment on their Line of Blue that they punish the wrongdoer for getting caught, not the crime itself.

Couldn’t argue with that video - smart move, pleading out.
As long as he was pleading guilty couldn’t he at least explain to everyone why in hell he did it? Was it panic? Hate? “Highly aggravated” sound like it implies criminal intent, but the actual facts of the case seem to suggest either panic or stupidity. I would dearly love to know what was going through this cop’s head when he did this.

Give him hard time in general population.
Valuing a black life at 3/5th of a white life is to be generous, especially in the South.
He fires not once, but four times, and it’s not attempted murder?? The way this is going down, probation sound about right.
