Former Sen. Larry Pressler (R-SD) endorsed Clinton following the Orlando nightclub shooting and told The Hill that gun control was a big part of it:
We need to go the route of more gun control as a result
of Orlando and all the other shootings that have occurred. But it’s
almost as though Republicans are saying gun control shouldn’t be part of
the conversation at all.
Nutshell: remember that sit-in on the house floor? While GOP house leadership was at a loss in trying to end the impasse, Louie Gohmert was essentially heckling the demostraters with ‘radical Islamic terrorism’ chants.
Thanks for providing this useful guide. However, it’s missing an essential piece of information: the date of the statement/action upon which you’re relying when you add someone to your list. The date is needed to put a statement in in proper context. It’s one thing if the “weasel” statement you are quoting was made three months; it’s quite another thing if the statement was made after least week’s fiasco. Likewise, it’s useful to know whether someone announced his/her opposition to Trump months ago or whether they sat on the fence until yesterday. Going forward, it will be useful to see when Republicans joined this honor roll.
Hate to break it to you TPM but you’re not the only one keeping a list and checking it twice. The Atlantic has a far more comprehensive list of Yeas, Nays, and Holdouts (or those wanting to have it both ways. As TPM has it correctly, Weasels)…
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has actively campaigned against Trump, especially during Trump’s attacks against a federal judge, telling The New York Times it was un-American:
“This is the most un-American thing from a politician since Joe McCarthy,” If anybody was looking for an off-ramp, this is probably it. There’ll come a time when the love of country will trump hatred of Hillary.”
I think Lindsey has a point there and not just for elected officials & candidates.
If there’s a gold medal for weaseling, it’s my rep Brad “Combat Podiatrist” Wenstrop. The closest he will come to addressing the subject is only in a press release
“I am working to advance policies in Congress that Hillary Clinton would work hard to destroy”.
Meanwhile our area Tea Partiers are calling him out for not hitching his flaming wagon to the Freedumb caucus. Sad that he will likely win despite the mind-numbing undervote he will face outside the Cincinnati suburbs.
Not one of them will apologize for creating the political environment which allowed a person like Trump to rise. The PARTY OF NO put party ahead of country and refused to do its job for the good of the country. The result was anger and frustration with their party and gave rise to Trump. Now they want to cleanse themselves by disavowing Trump and absolve them of their political crimes.
They are political bums whether they stay with Trump or jump ship. They should all drown politically in their own personal cesspools.
It’s time to make them available to the private sector. VOTE!
I hope she continues to build on this lead; this way when the inevitable wiki leaks or some other bullshit surprise comes in October, she has enough room to absorb the hit.
And supposedly Trump still has a solid chance of winning.
Just sit back and soak up what is happening with him for a while. He’s about two dozen Titanics, a Hindenburg and Chernobyl all in one.
Even those that cling on until the bitter end will be toxic for eternity.
There is no way out, he can not be dumped, he is the stank that keeps stinking, the Republicans worst nightmare.
He is the rock and Hillary is the hard place. The Repubs are dicked by the dangling dong of destiny, that’s all that there is to it.
