Discussion: Town Hall Crowd Presses Issa To Be A Check On Trump: 'Stand Up!'

Asked after the town hall if he was concerned about re-election, Issa told Politico he wasn’t worried.

“Not a bit,” he said.

It’s tough to strut, grovel and cower all at the same time.

It seems that Issa has a lot in common with all the other grovel-readiers. Trying to conjure the image of grovel/strut… say it over and over fast

In addition to losing the election, I hope somebody then steals Issa’s car and burns down his house.

Well, maybe not the arson.

That’s excellent!

“Fat, dumb and happy” is how you would describe Congressman Issa’s view of 2018. Sounds like an easy mark for a strong Democratic candidate.

John Mathews, a Republican voter in Issa’s district, asked the congressman to be more of a check on Trump.

"…our democracy is under attack from an adversary,”

That is a very profound statement coming from a Republican.

Oh yeah, Issa is going to “stand up.”

Kudos to his constituents for pressing him on it, but I’m sure they know him well enough to doubt that he actually has the backbone to do it.

Would you buy a used car from this man? I mean, seriously. Would you?

“Issa replied that he is tough on Russia.”

Actually, Issa’s record is quite tough on Russia.

When he has Kislyak and “the boys” over each week, he always limits them to three helpings of Beluga.

So who’ve we got? Might be a great opportunity to teach the ‘take nothing for granted’ lesson.

Correction: Orange County Register.

Don’t know? This is California so there is an active Democratic party.

He is in my County and my brother and his wife live in his district. The Democratic Party is gunning for him, along with three others , including my representative

“I got more votes in the last election than I did in any previous election."

Fun fact: when we moved to Vista in 1973 (where Issa’s office is), there was a population of about 24,000. When we moved away in 2015, the population had grown to around 96,000 and was still growing. The surrounding towns all underwent the same explosive growth. One might want to take a look at percentage of vote vs gross numbers - not such a rosy number.

But as I recall from the posters who live in or near his district, it is heavily GOP and will take a lot to win it. He has been serving in the district since 2001, so he has to have some support and there must be a reason he hasn’t yet been unseated.

True. When I grew up in San Diego, Vista and everything in inland North County were all tiny towns out in the boondocks. Not anymore. And not nearly so conservative as they once were either. We can all hope that the Dems put up a decent candidate and Issa is toast.

If there is one thing that is consistent about Issa, it’s that he is a bald-faced liar. And a mean one, at that.

“negotiate from a position of strength” - means nothing, nada. Typical. Superior nonsense for the base. I think trump thought he’d eek out another faux win ( something, anything for the base like healthcare) by bullying other leaders into renegotiating the climate pact. He was promptly told to take a hike. Issa needs to catch up.
