Discussion: Top Trump Aide Rick Dearborn To Leave White House Early Next Year

The question of how to get people, including and especially people who consider themselves conservatives, to see how grotesquely what they think of as their movement has changed is so big we can lose sight of it. The Never Trumpers try, from the margins. If I had Obamaā€™s attention Iā€™d suggest he think about helping get that message out. Iā€™ve never seen or heard of anyone better at conveying complicated ideas in ways the public can understand.

The problem with Obama doing that is that they donā€™t like him and wonā€™t listen.

Itā€™s better by far for one of the Never Trumpers to try to talk to fellow conservatives, IMO.

Iā€™ve tended to assume it died with that swamp-end intellectual Newt. His pretensions are an attempt to exploit that tradition by claiming it, then abusing it.

But youā€™re right. After 1980, thinking-- thinking thoughtfully, as opposed to figuring stuff out-- was done.

I hear ya but I think maybe a lot of the reachables werenā€™t ever rabidly opposed to Obama the man as much as they just reflexively went along with what the GOP did. Right now 22 percent of Republicans view him favorably. If he made a big speech and said he understands loving your country and wanting people to work for a living and play by the rules, he gets that, but these new Republicans, they cray, and one in five GOP voters gave him a fair listen, I think thatā€™d help. The Never Trumpers are mostly able communicators and do their best but they donā€™t have his gifts or stature. Pipe dream for the moment but I do think itā€™s an important message.

It is an important message and I donā€™t know - you could be right.

I have wished for some time that he would re-engage.

He was Patient Zero in ending the possibility of discussion and compromise between the parties. Heā€™d be hanging upside down from a light pole if I had any say about it.

Sanity departed before it arrived and in advance of the crazy, henceforth the term sanity.

Another reason St. Ronnie was an execrable president.

Personally I think he is that creepy kid no one looks up after high school is done an over. Same thing, one this is done, no one will really want him around.

The perfect storm of decadence, hatefulness, and incompetence weā€™re living through provides the only situation I can think of in which a freak like Miller could achieve high standing. Heā€™s an opportunistic infection.

At minimum, Dearborn passed messages along. At a broader level, he may have helped to operationalize the Russia-Trump communications and to provide ways to cover-up direct links.

Based on what we know about how Sessions handled himself in the Comey firing and some of his other comments about the challenges of managing the Trump team during the campaign, a fair issue to explore is whether Dearborn identified politically or legally problematic activities and attempted to cover them up or fix things.

Excellent word crafting there.

Considering where we are in the calendar, ā€˜early next yearā€™ means he is half way out the door right now.
Like Dina Powell heā€™s just waiting on the severance and a taxi.

I seriously doubt that Mueller cares if they are still employed in the White House or not.
Their crimes are on record and are actively being investigated and the severity determined.
Dearborn is on the dead man walking treadmill along with a few busloads of other Trumpians.
First stop, the Federal Penitentiary. Enjoy you criminals, enjoy!

My hope is that Kellyā€™s like an undercover cop ā€“ heā€™s looks very, very dirty but heā€™s there for a purpose and there is a line. Maybe in the 11th hour when we need someone in the room heā€™ll be a patriot yet.

This helps me sleep at night.
