Discussion: Top House Dem: I Wish Obamacare Language On Subsidies Was Clearer

Has he always been a Democrat?

That sounds nice and all, but I have to disagree with you on this one. He’s a grown man indeed…one of the adults in the room, so to speak…and he should know better than to use language and say things that the children in the room are going to hear to the exclusion of all else. It’s called practical reality. It’s called awareness. It’s called savvy. Recognizing and accepting that you can’t talk to the rest of the country like they’re all adults…because they’re fucking not…is key. Running around operating on the idiot presumption that the general public can understand nuance and complexity and contextual relevance (or is even willing to try to do so in the first place) is complete foolishness. You might as well be yelling at your lawn not to grow so fast during the summer and explaining to it that ā€œthis is important because the town is rationing the water.ā€ Attempting to explain everything IS NOT WORKING.

Is there anyone here who DOESN’T wish that the language was clearer?

My response would be what Midnight Rambler said above.

The reality is that the asshats are going to mine a ā€œgaffeā€ out of anything Democrats say, no matter how bulletproof and asshatproof the statement seems, because otherwise they’d have to actually act like reporters did in the bygone days of, well, hell as recently as the 80s, really. Blaming the victim is not helpful.

When those things that ā€œthe children in the room are going to hear to the exclusion of all elseā€ are also so blindingly obvious that they hit you in the face with a hammer, I really don’t have a problem with it. What the hell is he supposed to say? ā€œYes, it’s perfectly fine the way it isā€? I’m no fan of Hoyer in general, but getting upset over this is frankly stupid.
