Discussion: Top Homeland Security Republican Demands End To Family Separations

Reminds me of a dog I had many years ago, right down to the white toes. She was a sweetheart.

This seems like a big deal. This guy is panicked enough that he’s taking a chance on Trump trashing him. He thinks the risk of not speaking out is greater. That’s huge IMHO. And I’ll bet there are quite a few others who wish they had the guts.

I’m guessing there’ll be more within 24 hours.

If you mean more reps going against the grain then I hope you are correct

Is he retiring?

Or in a completely safe district?

Or an actual human being?

I read on the twitter that some of the girls are being flown around the country, some as far as Michigan. Is this true?

I think he would be right about that. They should all be panic stricken. Not sure how much good it will do at this point. The GOP have been compromised by their support of evil. I have a feeling anyone with a R next to their name is going to pay a heavy price.

I can picture some very effective attack ads.

I think so too and the Quinnipiac Poll is pretty convincing. Plus it is too late to tackle a major immigration bill. The frickin’ midterms are less than 6 moths from now.For now Congress should look at doing this in manageable chunks. The first being keeping families together and save the rest for after the midterms. This would be easy but with Trump’s all or nothing stance it may be a tough sell.

This group was flown from AZ to Miami.

It was on Ana Navarro’s twitter feed. She said about the same. Monsters, this administration is nothing but monsters.

When I see pictures of the situation, I know it won’t be long before there’s disease spreading through tents or cages or fighting erupts among the older kids. What do they have to lose? We’ve taken away every semblance of normalcy or safety for them. Then the administration will say, “See, we told you they’re criminals (or animals).”

Hard to tell, but I would wager the continued appearance of this story on front pages and at the top of news reports has begun to crack the facade of impervious mud surrounding the Reps. It is more than a one-day wonder. So much keeps happening, and the MSM usually moves from one shiny object to the next. Stories that once would have been followed for days or longer are pushed out of sight before they can be absorbed. We need the press to focus and develop the narratives about policy actions that make a difference in peoples’ lives. Especially when they are appalling, like this situation.
I’d like fewer reports on tweets and more on subjects such as the actual broad effect on eliminating the health insurance protection for pre-existing conditions. It takes more than one or two days to grab everyone’s attention.

Under normal circumstances with competent leadership that controls their party and their message, you would be correct. But “Speaker” Ryan is about as feckless as they come, so it’s unlikely they are enforcing any kind of message discipline on their members.

It’s pretty much literally Lord of the Flies territory in the GOP now.

OMG - A young child put on a plane in the middle of the night would surely think they were going to the other side of the world and would never see their parents again.
