One of the House’s top conservatives now says he cannot support presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump after the real estate mogul questioned whether a federal judge could be fair given his “Mexican heritage,” according to CNN political reporter Manu Raju.
Raju reported on-air Wednesday that Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX), a chair of the conservative Republican Study Committee, said he “was incredibly angry” at Trump for attacking U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel’s integrity based on his ethnicity. Curiel is presiding over lawsuits against Trump University in California.
Wow. Raju got all of that out of “chinga te, cabrón”?
Slightly OT, but, this is so worth the watch. Trump’s insecurity about his wealth (or lack thereof) is his Achilles Heel, and this guy destroys Trump through comedy:
I call bullshit on Flores. Resign, change parties or support The Rump. Those are your choices, Congressman. Some reporter please find out how Rump feels about his half assed supporter from Texas.
Except my darling Rachel schooled her and then even HughHewitt said he agreed with Rachel. The GOPers are so desperate they will take any little improvement from Trump even though I thought he was way out of his element and even then he resorted to some of his favorite lines (like he will be the best ever). What an ego this guy has
“Mr. Trump needs to show how he will address the critical issues on the minds of Americans: national security and economic opportunity for hardworking American families.”
How can anyone expect Trump to address these issues about which he so demonstrably has absolutely no knowledge or insight?
Yes Rachel M was awesome and stayed calm even when their exchange got a bit contentious. Hewitt agreeing with Rachel must have stung, but such things happen when you’re making patently ridiculous arguments.
“I don’t endorse people that bash judges – based on his ethnic heritage,” Flores said.
Unless they’re Obama nominees to SCOTUS.
Seriously, every Republican coming out against Trump’s anti-Curiel rhetoric should be asked if they still support not giving Judge Garland a Senate hearing and how the anti-Garland stance of GOP Senators differs from Trump’s anti-Curiel stance.
That’s the crux of it – and soon the sane (semi-sane?) Republicans are going to have to decide if they want Trump to be (comparatively) reasonable if it’s going to lose them the only voters so out-of-it that they will vote for the man. ---- The real tragedy here isn’t Trump, or the Republicans who - stupidly - didn’t realize they were setting the stage for someone like him … it’s the number of American citizens who are willing to turn off their brains and treat their right to vote, which many brave people have died to protect, as something akin to filling out a Nielsen rating form.
Flores told CNN this week that while he still planned to vote for Trump, he wouldn’t get a full endorsement.
“I don’t endorse people that bash judges – based on his ethnic heritage,” Flores said.
HUH? What exactly is the difference between “endorsing” and “voting for”? Let me guess: Flores promises not to sing a Trump campaign song while skipping through the park en route to the polling place?
Making anti-Trump ads would be the easiest job in the world, if it weren’t for the sheer volume of juicy sound-bites and quotes to sort through, and the tough decisions over which are the absolute juiciest.
Because of that “embarrassment of riches” Flores’ comment probably will not make the cut.
But I’ll bet Ryan’s “textbook racism” comment will.
