Discussion: Tom Cotton Says Nobody Should Undergo 'Trial By Newspaper'

I take issue with you calling that walking turd a worm, it’s grossly unfair to legged worms!

[And now this just in from the American Association of Ambulatory Feces… “We strongly protest the comparison of our members with Tom Cotton…”]

Cotton is feeling guilty? About what?

Cotton’s participation in the Trump national security transition team isn’t mentioned often enough.

Lifelong Arkie here. I’ve got a couple good friends who went to Dardanelle High School with Tom Cotton. There are, uh, definitely some stories to be told.

Getting ready for your own problems to come to light, eh Cotton?

OK Tom, you have Uncle Roy babysit your kids!

Only Democrats seem to care about the results of a “Trial by Newspapers” anyway so…

Yeah, I guess he’d Be right.

“We shouldn’t have trial by newspaper,” he told the Associated Press. When
it comes to Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, who faces sexual
misconduct allegations from several women, Cotton said that Alabama
voters “are going to make that decision, just like the people of this
country made their decision last year on Donald Trump.”

Yet you would support ousting Franken ans seating Moore?

Exactly

He probably meant to say “All the right people.”

So Cotton opposes both Franken and Moore to sit in the Senate?

Well, let’s gets those old HS friends going. This guy is beneath contempt; right down there next to Trey Gowdy.

An electoral college victory is all they need to invoke the will of the American people. Contrast that to what would happen if a Democrat were elected without the popular vote. The dynamic would play out very similarly to the way the #MeToo fallout has. Democrats would at least strive not to let tribalism take over and Republicans would embrace it.

Whatever you think of Cotton (I don’t think much of him), he has a point.

Allegations of sexual impropriety is a very difficult issue around which thoughtful people can disagree.

The Roger Stone types will weaponize this issue against politicians they don’t like.

Politicians pose for thousands of photos with people every year. Should every politician accused of brushing a boob or touching a booty resign? What if it’s 3 people? I don’t pose for thousands of pictures and I’ve accidentally brushed a boob or two and have rested my had on the small of the back in photos with both men and women.

Obviously many of the accusations are much more serious. Both Trump and Moore face multiple accusations of sexual assault. But didn’t also Franken with the forced kissing accusations?

And Cotton has a point about people charged or convicted of nothing who have been elected by the people of their state/district. Those voters have a voice and say in all of this.

For all of us, it’s a subjective standard. I’ve been thinking about this since I was a naive 29 year old volunteer on the 1992 Clinton campaign.

For me the standard is multiple on the record accusations from unrelated people. I’m less impressed with people who refuse to make their accusations public (although I understand why and have compassion for them) unless I believe their story has been fully vetted by a reputable news organization. The WaPo taught us an important lesson on this recently.

How many accusations is necessary for me depends. I need fewer if the accusations show a pattern of conduct.

These are incredibly difficult issues and we need to have a conversation about this. I’m not prepared to demand anyone resign from office facing a single accusation of misconduct. But more than 1 and it gets very difficult.

Trial by cable news, on the other hand. Or trial by twitter…

Words of wisdom from Senator Moron Cotton. The man is despicable and can’t wait to get blood on his hands.

Hypocrite! Lying hypocrite!

Make America America Again!

Run for office- the 2018 elections are less than a year away! And if Trump and Louie Gohmert can get elected what’s to stop a qualified candidate?

Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. You’ll meet with neighborhood Dems and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.

Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that.

Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump and half of eligible voters stayed home last November. Today’s 12-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.

Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly.

Get appointed to your Planning Commission. Know everything going on in your community.

Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020, just over 2 years from now, when we redraw Congressional Districts.

And get rid of GERRYMANDERING! Safe GOP seats gave us such intellectual giants as Louie Gohmert and Steve King. In most cases it’s the state Legislature that draws Congressional boundaries. Make it FAIR, OPEN and HONEST! We can do this!

Overturn Citizens United. Money is NOT speech and Corporations are NOT people- at least not until Texas executes one, and overturn any voter ID laws that are clearly an attempt to disenfranchise the poor and people of color.

You Got To Run!

He doesn’t even have to open his mouth for one to know he’s a smug, self-righteous grifter. I see him on occasion around the business district of McLean, VA, where I live. Last time I encountered him he was walking from Fairfax Cleaners in the direction of the ABC store, with laundered shirts in one hand and cell phone in the other, gangly elbows jutted out, occupying the whole sidewalk. As he approached, I refused to give ground and he gave me a dirty look as he went around me.
