Having watched both of them doing weekend and fill-in duties and MSNBC anchoring back in the day, I was surprised when Williams (with his Ron Burgundy-ish self-regard and annoying nasal voice) was the one elevated to the Big Chair. Lester Holt was and is a much better presenter. You would have thought NBC would have leapt at the opportunity to have a first class anchor and the first African American anchor of its flagship news show.
