Discussion: TN Sec Of State Pushes Bill Exposing Voter Registration Groups To Criminal Penalties

Oh, how I long for those antebellum times, Charlotte!

Look away, Dixieland, as we disenfranchise all the darkies.

What is wrong with the Confederacy? Oh…wait…never mind…

The bills would require all participants in voter registration efforts to complete a “training course” designed by the secretary of state’s office. Failure to do so would result in a criminal penalty. As would failure to submit — with a mail tracking number— a collected registration form within 10 days of the form being filled out.

In Texas you attend a VDR (Volunteer Deputy Registrar) training class (about an hour; prior to 2018 there was intra-country agreements so if a VDR in say Travis County Wilco would also certify you as a VDR. Now there’s less reciprocity (weird, huh?)

And have to turn the forms in within 3 (5? have to look up in my notes) of completing them.

North Dakota has no voter registration. Nor do they have a voter fraud problem.

Trumpies are experts at designing a disaster, then blaming Democrats and dark-skinned people for their own crimes.

Voters might be willing to dispense with these impediments if some other measures could be implemented. Maybe a fee at the poll or something.

honestly, the riff raff factor these days is simply vapors inducing. Maybe a land ownership requirement is in order as well.

Nothing to see here.

hello - first time posting. I’m a Texas VDR in Fort Bend County. It’s 5 days to turn in a completed form, and reciprocity only occurs if you apply with the other county and ask for it. Also, we’ve got to turn in completed forms in person - can’t mail them in!

They still haven’t gotten over the ACORN fake scandal, have they?

Tennessee already ranks as the worst state in the nation for voter turnout, and 40th in voter registration.

Republicans: So there’s room for improvement. Won’t rest until 50th!

So just to sum up here:

  1. Voter registration groups will face criminal penalties for failing
to submit voter registration forms within 10 days of being filled
    out.
  2. Voter registration groups will face criminal penalties for
submitting voter registration forms with incorrect information.

Want to get rid of a voter registration group? Start filling out voter registrations for “Mickey Mouse” and “Tyler Durden”. They’re required to turn them in, and they face penalties for turning in invalid forms.

Man, could I see a literacy test for GOP voters. As long as we’re suppressing the goddamn vote here.

Let’s face it. Voters just get in the way.

submitting too many inaccurate or incomplete voter registration forms long with putting each form through a DNA test to confirm a “white” gene is prevalent.

and:
Tennessee Education Rank
Tennessee is No. 39 overall for the subcategory of “quality of education and attainment gap,” thanks in part to its No. 35 ranking for “average university quality.” But the state only mustered a No. 43 ranking for both the subcategory “education attainment rank” and the survey as a whole.Jan 24, 2017
And:
Tennessee ranks 14th among states and the District of Columbia for drug use
and
Tennessee ranks as fourth least-safe state. Tennessee is one of the most unsafe places to live, according to a new WalletHub survey.

Howdy! Welcome!

Thanks, I knew it was one of the other. I’m certified but haven’t participated in a drive yet. But did renew a registration when doing a block walk a few weeks ago!

Yeah, Travis and Wilco had reciprocity through 2018 and then Wilco dropped reciprocity while Travis kept it. So a Wilco trained VDR can certify with Travis w/o taking a class but not vv.

We were very successful in voter registration and “Judge” Carter here in TX-31 squeaked by with < 5% margin and that’s when Wilco dropped reciprocity with Travis.

Weird huh?

Fucking Republicans…

So does each form have to be mailed separately with a tracking number, or can you batch them up just as long as two notaries certify that those are the forms in the package?

In addition to the obvious catch-22 – the law requiring submission of all forms has been a propaganda win for the GOP for years, thanks to reporters who fail to bust their chops for it – the supposed reasons for this bill are complete crap. The complaint is that too many people registered to vote, but slightly spreading out the time to process those registrations really wouldn’t change things. Poor planning in the SoS office does not constitute a crime by voter registration drives. (And of course I can’t wait to see the “course” – and what happens if the course materials are unaccountably delayed?)

These guys won’t be happy until they’ve defined the electorate in so narrowly and in their image that the only election that matters is the GOP primary.
