Discussion for article #231073
Senator Franken was missed. I posted this yesterday on another thread:
Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) issued the following statement on his opposition to Antonio Weiss, the Treasury Department’s nominee to be Under Secretary for Domestic Finance:
“This position requires someone who understands how to make our economy work for the middle class and those aspiring to be in the middle class,” said Sen. Franken. “As such, I will not be supporting Mr. Weiss’ nomination. I am troubled by his history working on international corporate mergers for a Bermuda-based investment firm, and his work on so-called inversion deals that allow corporations to change their address and avoid their US tax responsibilities. Wall Street’s perspective is already well-represented in the Administration.”

Dick Durbin is opposed but has been pressured by Obama to first meet with Weiss before voting no. Sherrod Brown, who has voted no against similar Wall Street backgrounds, is also being pressured to meet with Weiss.
