(snark> Well, this is why Trump’s wall makes sense. Gotta keep our Murican gardeners and health care workers here in Murica. Who will wipe our parents’ asses in their nursing homes otherwise?

Won’t the wall prevent them from going back?

The Mexican economy hasn’t been doing all that well thanks to Peña Nieto’s maladroitness, but it isn’t doing all that poorly, either. The rich are still getting richer and the poor, poorer, just like in the US, but there are a lot more programs to help out the people in dire straits than in the US.

Their educational reform took all the flaws of NCLB and none of its advantages being basically an instrument for the rich to shut down public schools and privatize education while paying teachers a pittance, barely minimum wage. The petroleum reform just sold off the source of most of the income of the Mexican government to international corporations and the labor reform made it easier for employers to screw over their employees and pay them less than minimum wage. But even if the peso is losing a lot of value compared to the dollar (12 M$ to 18 M$ = $US 1.00 in a period of less than six months), life itself is no worse than ever. The same cannot be said at the lower levels in the US.
