He told TPM he was in his last semester earning a graduate degree as a finance major,
That, to me, says it all.

Hereās what I donāt get. If a student group at Michigan State invites Richard Spencer and the school turns him down, them maybe thereās recourse. But what the hell does a student at Georgia State have to do with getting Spencer to speak at a school where no one invited him?
Oh, letās ask Emmet Till for startersā¦or Anne Frankā¦
Who pays for all these people to be there? Katie Hopkins is from England - she gets to go to San Francisco on some-one elseās dime to spew hate to Americans? This is quite the racketā¦and obviously a top down enterprise, not bottom up.
The main reason this keeps coming up is because thereās a group of students on campus that wants him to come speak. College Republicans or some other group.
Because they want to look like that. Itās a deliberately cultivated ālookā. Creepy, huh?
No.
Allowing an entity whose underlying premise is the subjugation or suppression of others is fundamentally unsustainable in a free society. I do not believe any right is a unrestrained license to any activity.
I see no problem in targeting neo-nazi and white supremacists, both proven dangerous and violent, for public condemnation.
The paradoxical truth is that in a tolerant society you cannot tolerate someone whose views expressely support the elimination of tolerance. For me, as a simple citizen and soldier, I view it as irrational to accept the presence of an enemy whose goal it is to eliminate the values of a free society.
Neo-Nazi and white supremacists- the Alt Right- are the enemies of the American Ideal. Itās that simple for me.
Just another f3cking white grifter.
Makes it look more like a ābrownshirtā uniform, I guess.
āIgnore him. Heāll go away.ā
History does not favor this strategy as a winning solution.
First, I wish somebody would start digging in to see just how much Robert Mercer/Charles Koch money is going into pushing this garbage onto our countryās campuses: Koch has been subverting the youth for a good many years, and is a vicious old Bircher with Birchite racial attitudes, but Koch seems to have it in his zany old octogenarian trust-fund-brat head that the way to corrupt the youth is to immerse them in āentrepreneurship institutesā and alternative histories of the Founding Fathers: whereas Mercer seems to be the one who has truly glommed onto the mission of spreading white nationalist rage and insanity, targeting the fertile ground of spoiled, disaffected, angry, upper middle class white boys who donāt much like women and who are looking for a Cause.
Second, once the funding chain is established, couldnāt the left please step up with some billionaires of its own?
We need someone to fund authentic free speech movements, as opposed to the rightās version of āfree speech,ā which more properly should be called āliberating disaffected, angry white boys to feel free to call for mass rape, white privilege, genocide, and racial separatismā which is not so much free speech as it is, you know, same old fascist, racist, murderous, hateful, anti-democracy garbage it ever was.
So heās a serial liar who grifts on lawsuits. Sounds like Westboro.
It would be so nice if only College Republicans would show up to these events (with the exception of one person videotaping the cheers and reactions and then putting that video on YouTube).
All of these effin scammers coming out of the woodwork
Yes I was going to comment on that too. I donāt know if thatās his language or TPMās. If itās TPMāsācome on guys, you know better. But if itās his language, this guy is definitely lying about more than just his age. (And by the way how many people accidentally misstate their age, and in an email no less? āIām 28ā¦wait I meant I was born in '88.ā Yeah that sounds like a mistake someone might legitimately make.)
Why are white supremacists like this loser proof that the opposite is true?
Because theyāre out of their SS uniforms and caps.
Next question?
Those schools are not denying Spencerās right to speak. They have no obligation under the Constitution to make a venue available to him.
What says it all to me is that heās 29, and still a student. No experience of the real world, and it shows. Heās latched on to a political philosophy that most of us get past by the time weāre about 15 or 16.
Unfortunately or otherwise, courts have ruled that state-run colleges and universities are āthe stateā for purposes of the first amendment. They would probably change their minds if there were a flood of leninists and satanists and wiccans wanting to use major halls to speak, but those groups are not as asshlish as the white supremacists, and they donāt have a bunch of asshole millionaires and billionaires throwing money at them.
