Discussion: Third Kavanaugh Accuser Has History Of Legal Disputes

Any lawyer who does civil law will tell you that a plaintiff with a history of litigation will not make a good witness. That history gives the defendant’s atty a ready-made list of questions for cross-examinations.

Jeez, I wonder how many lawsuits trump as been involved in? Perhaps she is potential POTUS material.

I admire Dr. Ford’s courage as well and I am deeply sorry for whatever has happened to you. We cannot however allow Kavanaugh or any other to go down as a proxy vengeance for the crimes of others. If he goes down, it should be through a fair and reasonable process, facing accusers and given a presumption of innocence as is our tradition in this country and is as just a system as we can use in this broken world. We cannot strip him of his humanity because we believe he would strip others of theirs. Dr. Ford is brave. Ms. Ramirez is brave. I think they have provided enough for a reasonable investigation. Either the Republicans will do the right thing, just a few of them, or they will not. If they fail, hopefully then the American people will judge them and punish them at the polls and we can correct or contain the injustice. But for now we can only wait and hope and try to persuade the conservatives that this isn’t their guy. On that last point, Ms. Swetnick does not so far have a convincing story and her voice weakens the others as they can generalize her as an example of all the accusers.

And isn’t that shameful?

I agree with your reply, I would only add that I do not want an innocent man ruined for something he didn’t do, but, this is not a criminal court, this is a job interview for a life time position on the SCOTUS.

None of this had to happen, but Fat Nixon had to have his reality show, drama, drama, drama - meanwhile people in this country, young and old, are hurting and scared. Fuck this hot mess.

Wow. What a coincidence. Women who speak up have some kind of “issues” because, you know, they speak out. IOW, they persist. Suddenly, it’s not a coincidence. It’s the patriarchal society blowback women can expect when they stand up and speak for themselves. Suddenly it’s a “pattern.” I hope we are on the verge of a cultural shift where strong women are welcomed to strengthen our society as a whole.

Yup, my 1st thought.

And from the article,

Ann Simonton, a nationally recognized advocate for rape survivors and director of Media Watch, a media literacy organization, cautioned that many sexual abuse survivors encounter chaos and trouble later in life — things can tarnish a survivor’s image but don’t necessarily speak to the legitimacy of the underlying abuse allegations.

“This type of trauma will impact your daily life forever,” she said.

Wørd.

I was about 48 yo. I’d spent nearly 20 years doing The Work. My metaphor was it’s like renovating a Victorian Home, while living in it. :eyes:

In 2014 I felt like I’d finished the renovation, including cleaning out the basement.

Then I discovered the sub-basement.

My wish for you is that you have a compassionate and loving people around you to support you while you peel the onion.

Namaste.
