part of me hopes so. However when Reince’s bugle call is essentially for everyone to now scatter, good luck in catching em.
Wow. You lose Ann Wagner, that’s kind of the ballgame right there.
From here on out there should be only one theme song for the Trump campaign as he keeps demolishing the Republican brand:
The irony is delicious. If Ted would have just waited a little bit longer he could have kept his dignity intact.
Yeah - seriously. Josh posted a piece about the civil war inside the party and how it’s in some ways worse than we anticipated, from the GOP’s standpoint, not ours. From our standpoint it’s better than we could have hoped for.
As if for the first time in this entire campaign they all of a sudden realized their standard bearer is a goddamn fuckin misogynist.
Good luck with that argument.
If they lose even a small portion of the alt-right, the Dems will sweep the senate races. Ruh roh.
Representative Barbara Comstock (VA-10) has denounced.
Ted revealed himself to be the “gran puta” -was pretending to say out of the fray on principle - but then there was something to gain (what?) & he choose to snuggle up to Trump.
Look! The albatross still hangs around their necks.
To goddamn late assholes. I hope you all choke on his ass. I am enjoying every cringe inducing minute of it.
This is the corollary to “you put up with Trump’s crap all this time, but now you’re offended?” : if Dems/libs/Emo Progs aren’t motivated enough by the threat of white power/white nationalism, then I’ve got no use for you. You’re a sunshine patriot and fair-weather voter, demanding that everything be catered to your particular social media outrage meme.
And you can bet that the continued “too kewl for skewl” attitude among liberals is going to extend into Clinton’s first term, blissfully unaware of the myriad problems that she will need to confront that might push their cherished bumper sticker demands to the side.
Edited to add: “you” in general, not the original poster.
So when more of them get booed by Trump dead-enders and start getting the threats on their voicemail and watching their poll numbers drop – and realize that no, they can’t replace the top of the ticket – I wonder how many of these cowards will re-endorse between now and election day. They put party ahead of country, and now they’re trying to put personal career ahead of party. What next.
Hey, Congresscritters: you dance with the devil that brung ya.
We will not forget your former support. You are toast.
Had he possessed any.
Hello silver lining…
I gotta point out that Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) is floating the most disingenuous head-fake of a “retracted his endorsement of Donald Trump” press sensation of them all, and his formula may become a model for other “disavow-don’t disavow” ploys by those that follow.
Portman is posing as a principled man that will NOT vote for Trump, but WILL vote for Pence as president instead:
“I continue to believe our country cannot afford a Hillary Clinton presidency,” Portman’s statement also said. “I will be voting for Mike Pence for President.”
I presume (who knows?) he plans on writing in Pence as his presidential pick.
There may be an expert in election law, here, that can shed more light, but I gotta assume that the Republican Party has a slate of Electors that are the ACTUAL VOTERS in our presidential sweepstakes, and whomever goes to their state capital to cast their vote for president & vice-president on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December will vote as their state convention dictated, more-or-less. In other words, a write-in Pence Elector will be the same REAL voter for president as the Republican Party’s Trump Elector.
(Yes, the ability of Electors to go squirrely in the clutch is notorious and fodder for “Did You Know?” human interest sidebars in limited-circulation history magazines, and I know that a few eccentric Republican Elector votes might be swung to Pence versus Trump by enough write-in ballots cast and whatever other influences may sway them in Ohio, but it would take a concerted effort to make such a protest vote significant – even in Ohio, much less across the country.)
So, Portman has a press release and a “bold statement” of retracting his endorsement of Donald Trump. But, where the rubber meets the road, it’s not a retraction of his vote at all.
It’s the sneakiest abandonment-not abandonment, mealy-mouthed head fake of a “Principled Stand” floated so far this cycle.
Kudos, Rob. You’re the most duplicitous asshole afloat, near as I can see.
I don’t think I saw mention of a really big fish—Ted Cruz’s VP has jumped ship!
About the electors: If Pence is the write-in candidate or some similar formula, then they can vote as they choose, right? Surely many of them will cast their electoral votes for Trump.
That’s the kicker, this is no surprise. The man is an asshole, has always been an asshole, and always will be an asshole, and anyone who has dealt with him knows it.
Supporting him makes you an asshole too, and you can’t undo what assholes do, you just have to flush it away.
