By this point in this administration, in every role, but especially communications director, you can’t tell me you don’t know what you’re getting into.

But remember, if Trump only hires the “best” how come so many of his hires come apart after only a few months? The litany is: “Not my fault. Bad advisors. I didn’t want them anyway. They were forced on me. I didn’t know this person. It’s the Dems faults. Nancy Pelosi. Barrack [sic]. California. Enemies of the people. Fake News. Poor Donnie, I’m all alone waiting.”

Hope Hicks lasted a year and then as the water got hotter she jumped out of the pot. (That proverb isn’t true, by the way.) The problem wasn’t that she was good and everyone else is bad. The problem was that it was increasingly clear how incredibly bad this administration really is. The problem is, Trump, you stupid bastard, that you’re a criminal and terrible at everything, and it’s more obvious every day, and it’s nothing your staff can help with because, as we mentioned before, you’re terrible at everything. The problem, as everyone but you sees, is you. Simple as that. It’s over. Make an immunity deal and resign. You have no other options.

I think it goes back to the meeting between McConnell and Murdoch right after the election in November. Way more criticism from the right.
I suspect they’re trying to change minds before 2020. And, they are fully aware of what Mueller’s going to produce RE:Trump so preparing the audience.
