Discussion: The Nation Magazine Endorses Bernie Sanders

HRC not sold out to corporate interests? That’s too funny! Sanders doesn’t even HAVE a superpac. Try that on for size!

So far, his supporters have only managed to be hateful enough toward Hillary’s supporters to turn them off to Bernie’s message.

As a Bernie supporter (who will be voting for Hillary if she wins the nomination, and urging my fellow Bernie supporters to do so) I do agree with the concern. The comment sections over at Huffpost, for example, are often a wasteland of “I’m voting for Bernie, I will never vote for Hillary” fools. How they can say they’re so in favor of Bernie, and yet ignore his very clear statement that Hillary is “infinitely better than any of the Republicans,” I really cannot understand. Masters of cognitive dissonance, I suppose.

But I would point out, like jsfox did, that this is a two way street. Some Hillary supporters take a snotty, condescending attitude toward Bernie supporters and are making Hillary’s task of uniting as many Bernie supporters behind her for the general more difficult (assuming she wins the nomination, which is, in my view, still very much the most likely outcome).

In the end, we’re going to all need to row together. So while we might argue about the direction of the boat and who would be the better captain, we really have to try to avoid beating each other bloody with the oars before the (general election) race even begins.

I like Bernie but I also don’t believe HRC is bought and sold by Wall Street. I think she would make a very good president, I am concerned about her negatives. I am also concerned that Bernie might not do well in a general election, A lot of his proposals are going to mean higher taxes (which I am not against) but the GOPers are adept at spreading lies and scaring folks and you mention higher taxes and it could be a huge problem. I would hope that if Bernie doesn’t get the nomination that he can impress upon his voters that voting for her is beyond important and the obvious reasons why

OK, but “higher taxes” on whom? A study not too long ago concluded that a .0001 tax on Wall Street alone could just about end debt and taxes as we know it. There’s lots to be said in this vein, but so far Sanders is the only one brave enough to even broach the subject. HRC certainly doesn’t have it in her, that’s for damn sure.

Neither does Hillary.
The superPAC supporting her is totally separate from her campaign and she has nothing to do with anything the superPAC does.

No candidate has a superPAC—it’s illegal.

Bernie does take PAC money, though, and lots of it.

Separate? Really? LOL Guess you missed the whole Stewart/Colbert thing. Or am I just being hateful for pointing out the obvious?

As if to add insult to injury, TPM takes this positive article about Sanders down from the front page less than 90 minutes after posting it! Just one more reason why I will not be renewing my Prime subscription in a few weeks. TPM used to speak to me and for me, but over the last 2 years or so, not so much any more. Josh has changed, and so has his blog. Too much to want to support any longer with my hard earned money. Hopefully the walls have ears to hear…

DWS is just another symptom of the Clinton intransigence. I believe Sanders got into the race to influence policy by showing that some issues Clinton ignores, like income inequality and the Wall street casino, have a lot of traction. But rather than respond in a dialogue or co-opt the stands that work, Clinton and her surrogates dig in their heels and get nasty. So what can Sanders do but continue to promote the issues he is passionate about, even to the point of winning the nomination, if Clinton will not be moved?

Thunderclap, I usually agree with you; but in this case, I think your partisan allegiance to HRC skews your judgement. Undifferentiated “his supporters”; "his fans"? You are usually much more discerning than this.

Many “real traditional democrats” became “Reagan Democrats” and have yet to return to the party. Hillary will not bring them back; Bernie’s authentically perceived focus on middle and working class economic issues may do so.

You are the first poster here to use such a baroque epithet, which makes your accusation kinda duplicitous. TPM posters are not responsible for anything posted at other sites.

I use the terms interchangeably in the interests of not repeating the same term over and over again.
