Discussion: The GOP Dream Of O'care Repeal Now Hinges On Coming Up With Replacement

“Most of us think that aspects of this law need to be repealed. Certain parts need to be reformed and overhauled , some things need to be replaced and other things are going to be maintained.”

So…you think ACA can be improved instead of replaced? Go figure.

Thats how Obama and the Dems won.

Sounds like a perfect recipe for tweaking instead of replacing. Of course, this will be lost on them.

“Only because health care is complicated, which is why the approach of taking a step-by-step approach, no 2,000 page bills like Obamacare did, no do it in the middle of the night – which is what the Democrats did– but taking it step by step with an effective transition to give families and business the peace of mind that they can chose a better option and making sure it’s ready for them is a good approach”

Right. They just slapped 2000 pages together with the flick of a wrist, in a few days. No thought whatsoever. Anyone could do it. So easy. Says this despite also saying that health care is more complicated than the GOP realized (I’d say it’s more complicated than the average GOPer CAN realize). My head spins at their cognitive dissonance, though I realize part of it is just taking any opportunity to slam ACA and dems and trying to blame them for everything under the sun… even if doing so makes is bullshit and make what you’re saying incoherent.

“We were sent here to repeal Obamacare, we have that opportunity. We need to do it. Delaying it for perfection in the eyes of the Democrats is going to be impossible.”

You were? There are many reasons you assholes got elected, but according to the latest polls, which show lots of support for the ACA, getting rid of it was not one of those reasons. Assface.

Uttered as though the bill was passed without any input whatsoever from Republicans, which is a lie. The ACA used a Republican plan as a baseline, and then the Republicans were allowed to make more than 100 revisions to the bill before it came up for a vote.

Now, of course, they’re claiming that it all just happened in the dead of night and they knew nothing about it while it was going on. Because, yes, that’s apparently how 2000 page pieces of legislation get passed.

It’s starting to look that way. They irony of the Freedom Caucus representing those most at peril from repeal is delicious.

I’d point out that taking a step by step approach to a complicated problem is how you get 2,000 page bills, but that would imply that he doesn’t already know that and isn’t just a fucking mendacious piece of shit.

I think the lede was buried here.

The Freedom Caucus is capable of being surprised?

True believers are never surprised by definition.

Maybe reality is actually seeping in!

Trump, Ryan, McConnell and their enablers have promised the American people a unicorn.
Those of us who watched the ACA come together can appreciate how incredibly difficult it is to create a mechanism to insure everyone at affordable prices. Ryan cannot possible deliver on this promise even if he had 10 years.
The GOP’s biggest problem is that the ACA is the conservative plan. A state based marketplace where private insurers compete for consumer business. Subsides also state based with 90% plus Federal funding. No unfunded mandate here.
Good luck creating a stable insurance market that includes mandatory per-existing coverage (which Republicans now love) and excludes an individual mandate (which Republicans have vowed to eliminate). It can’t be done. And good luck paying for all this without the taxes and employer mandates Republicans also hate.

Shorter Freedom Caucus((Idiots-R): We really thought this thru when we voted 50+ times to repeal it.

You know what … if they can come up with a solution that replaces and improves ObamaCare then all the more power to them.

The thing is, the only better system is single payer. So, please, keep it up.

Now that they don’t have the black President to cast blame onto, I suspect that a lot of Repukes are going to find a heretofore unrecognized love for the ACA. And I am still hoping that they live to regret their decision to call it “Obamacare.”

The Republicans have voted 60 times and spent over 87 million taxpayer dollars on Obamacare repeal and now they like Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna character say “Nevermind”. The lights in the kitchen are on and the roaches are scurrying to hide in dark corners.

It took nearly two years to come up with the ACA as-is, they’re not going to have a replacement any time soon since they are starting from point zero.
