The Tea Party isn’t so much an Astroturf movement, as all fertilizer, but no weed barrier. The lawn has degenerated into nothing but weeds, and the dandelions have serious concerns about that giant thistle in the middle.

The article fails to mention the close ties of the Freedom Caucus with C-Section Born Cruz.
It looks like Cynthia Lummis may be a Boehner/Ryan mole in the Freedom Caucus. Trump embodies the ideals and values of conservatism and loves the Constitution more than the Freedom Caucus and Ted Cruz.

They haven’t hired Christie to knock him of yet? Well, they could impeach him if they can succeed in getting Sarah Palin on the ticket with Trump. Not that the Silent Majority would ever vote for either of them.
Well they could always resort to more of the same. Blame Obama and the Democrats is a good start. Pribus did that this morning on CBS ( “both sides should denounce violence” ) and was allowed to get away with it. Perhaps they could try lying…its worked so well for them in the past. They could claim they have no idea where this Trump guy came from or why he has such broad appeal within their party. Racism…hell no!
They’re fucked. Trump is their Dr. Frankenstein’s’ monster. They made him and there is nothing they can do to stop him. Hopefully Trump will go the distance and brand the GOP as they should have been branded 30 years ago. He’ll never be president despite pundit slop to the contrary. Nor can hurt the Democrats. So sit back and watch the show.

HELL, they won’t allow Obama his pick for the Supreme Court…EVEN though the Constitution states that HE does. See they’re a bunch of LIARS like Donald Trump is. Sons of bitches, it was your systematic denial of reality and incessant efforts to construct a fantasy world to replace it that led us into this disaster. Obama’s a tyrant, we will undo everything he has done, experience and expertise are meaningless if not signs of decadent D.C. insiderness, “common sense” is more important than knowing anything about the world, judiciousness and restraint are weakness, loudmouth bellicose vulgarity is honesty and strength, a billionaire is uniquely suited to help those left stranded in the postindustrial world the billionaires created. You’ve driven the GOP off a cliff, you dumb bastards, and now you’re hoping for a soft landing because who knows anyway, it could happen, if Trump has core values and they’re good values then we’re in good shape, right? Because underneath the teetering pile of obvious horrible qualities there has to be good because how could our base be stupid, they’re Americans, they’re never wrong about anything. For all the hooplah about the chickens coming home to roost and Trump being an outgrowth of the Tea Party and Frankenstein’s monster, etc etc, I think it’s overlooked that Trump (and, indeed, the Tea Party itself) were manufactured by a complicit media that was more interested in promoting the insanity for ratings than maintaining standards of decency in America.
By intentionally, repeatedly, consistently giving a platform to the Bachmans and the Trumps and the Palins, the media cultivated an entire subculture of obstinate reactionary stubborn people whose entire political meaning for existence is that of opposition. None of these people stand for something, they just stand against what the Democrats hold dear or feel is important. Every one of their campaign pitches is framed with “think of what the Democrats will do if you don’t elect me”. Think of the free stuff they’ll give out with your tax dollars, think of the babies they’ll murder and you won’t be able to stop them because they’ll take your guns first. And every one of these people was given a major international platform and countless hours of direct air time as well as a veneer of credibility by a media that was unwilling to call a spade a spade, a media that was unwilling to break from the convention of “both sides are bad” to point out which side was specifically and demonstrably worse.
But they knew it all along. That’s why I said complicit. And for all the love I have for TPM, too, this site is also complicit. This site reported breathlessly on every asinine thing Trump said and gave him exactly the reward he and others like him sought. Just as the greater media did with the Tea Party and the Republicans since President Obama was sworn in.
Every horrifying statement they made that was cast in a light of either “Well both sides are bad” or “Well the Democrats said something too” or even when feet were not held to the fire, every failure of the media led to Trump’s current position. So we can wax philosophical about not understanding Trump’s rise, or whatever, but it’s important to understand that while the GOP purchased all the supplies to build a monster, the media was the entity which actually built it.

The NYT this morning says “The Man the Founders Feared” calling Dumpster a “Strongman”…
Not, he is all about being a “loudmouth bellicose vulgar asshole” which is far from being a strongman. What I fear is that the comman man is stupid enough to fall for the flim flam.

Gonna piggyback on to my own comment though to state that President Obama has done a good job of exploiting this to get politically awkward things done though. In an atmosphere where he’s already the most terrorist-loving socialist tyrant appeasing treasonous unconstitutional dictator that ever walked the earth, perhaps he figured he might as well negotiate a nuclear treaty and begin normalizing relations with Iran. Perhaps he might even normalize relations with Cuba. After all, what’s he got to lose? So it gave him a good chance to address some of the political dust that’s been swept under the rug for so many years, and pick up a couple of the cans that kept getting kicked down the road.
I cannot wait for the Obama admin retrospective that we’ll get in a few years, when everyone suddenly starts pivoting to say he wasn’t that bad after all. I’m confident the GOP’s angle will be “He wasn’t as bad as what we have now” regardless of who occupies the Oval Office. But, I hope they won’t control the history books too.
