This kind of crap has been happening at campaign events since time immemorial. Use to be, the opponent would send agitators to incite conflict. TPM headlining this is just fear mongering. Oh noes! It’s Mussolini!
And, it’s Trump’s own inflammatory rhetoric and demeaning tone that sends his followers the message: it’s okay to attack outsiders. It’s okay to lash out against anyone who doesn’t agree with us.
This is like saying the man who drills the well and hits a gusher made the oil.
It didn’t just happen in a vacuum. He didn’t just pop up out of nowhere and make these people behave in an inexplicable and totally out of character manner. The old, white, angry people committing the violence (and let’s hear it for Medicare for making them strong enough to do it without hurting themselves badly in the process. Yay.) have been groomed, carefully groomed, by three decades of dehumanizing, eliminationist rhetoric from Limbaugh and the rest of Hate Radio, from Fox, from their crazy websites.

Sounds like a dueling stand-your-grounders scenario is unfolding, and Cleveland could be their OK Corral.
If something doesn’t happen to change the direction this has taken before then, it seems likely there will be some sort of riot in the streets, whether it ends in gunplay or just general mayhem remains for fickle history to determine.

How to deal with bullies? Trump gives this Overdog fantasy out to people, which may come from his confidence man background. Naturally, it goes over well with people who have had to play Underdog for most of their lives. Bullies might be described as Underdogs trying on an Overdog role. This is partly why people feel so ashamed of letting themselves be bullied. It is ok to take orders from somebody who is your legitimate superior such as a boss or a military officer. Indeed, a good Overdog will never bully. This is why the appropriate response to a bully is to Overdog them back. If they don’t immediately pee themselves, they should at least back off. Trump’s bullies need to be shamed and have their ears boxed.
