Discussion: The Economy Is Not America's Biggest Concern For First Time Under Obama

Discussion for article #232115

Good grief. We’ve become a nation of crybabies.

This “poll” is a pointless snapshot in time that doesn’t take into account what happened when the “poll” was taken (or the fact that is is HEAVILY weighted by Older, White respondents as Pew Polls always are.)

Terrorism? TERRORISM?

A quick check of stats shows 11,068 firearm homicides in the US in 2011. Presumable that’s not changed much in the last few years. People are most worried about terrorism though?

Because something something OMG FRANCE!!! This is flavor of the month syndrome. People will be back to the economy as soon as the France thing calms down. In the meantime, the GOP/Teatrolls hope to threaten our ability to provide security for ourselves in hopes they can ride that flavor. If anyone had a reason for a “false flag operation,” it was them.

Rats! I guessed “Jennifer Lawrence.”

In 2016, when gas is back up near $4/gallon, the “economy” will once again be our top concern.

It never has been for the Republicans so we win right. It was awful after 8 years of Bushies and awfully good after just 6 years of Obama so we win right. The awesome job Obama has done has occurred by reducing old idiotic wars and not starting new wars to prove that war isn’t the only way so we win right. Unemployment stats are at expected at all times norms and if anything dropping so we win right. The stock market is insane which I’m not so sure about but the Republicans make a big deal about it so we win right. The deficit is a dead worry and the debt is an inflated worry so win right. Gas is less than two bucks a gallon so we win right. The only way for Republican states to get out of the messes that they create is to accept Obamacare funds so we win right.

The only problem is being able to rationalize the hard to swallow truth that winning big comes with many small painful losses and lots of frustration overcome. But we are still winning right?

Dealing with global warming is up, but still pathetically under 50.

I have my issues with Obama, and this nation still has problems to address (ahem, FREAKIN GLOBAL WARMING) but his below water approval rating baffles me. Even for things that he really can’t, and isn’t, taking credit for, like gas prices, everything economically is better than 2009. Much better. If this happened in a GOP administration the POTUS would spike the ball in the end zone and go on vacation for two years and the public would want to name every freaking public building after him.

Terrorism?!! Thanks, MSM. Great job.

OTOH, I’d want to know exactly where these poor souls get their news. THAT should be included in poll questions.

What are you? Scared?

As a matter of practical politics, guess who votes?

What’s never made sense about this poll is jobs is separate from the economy. Most people see those as the same thing. It’s sad that the conservative noise machine can still scare people about terrorism. Though it is good news that global warming gained.
