Thiel’s motives are seemingly based on this notion that he and Hogan are in the same boat with this. If that is the case, then why didn’t Thiel file when he was outed as gay?

i have to look for it…but Vince has cut way too many checks to the Donald Trump foundation. It was one of the peripheral (?) issues that got Linda into trouble during her last senate race.

Yes but in a normal world they would have settled and Hogan would have walked away with some $$$.
Hogan didn’t and kept fighting (because of Thiel’s contribution) and made it so that Gawker’s insurance would not be picking up the tab.
I had no interest in the tape or watching it, I don’t think Gawker should have published it, but Hogan even bragged about the tape on Howard Stern’s show. It wasn’t this huge thing that destroyed his reputation.
This is Thiel wanting to completely destroy Gawker, not hold them accountable.

The more I read about this guy, the more I’m persuaded Gawker has been doing a public service - and given the rabidly anti-gay causes he’s funded, his personal orientation is most certainly newsworthy. The FYIGM is strong with this one.

In this Thiel was standing up for a libertarian principle – privacy during sex – that virtually everyone on the right and left can agree on. I am not sure that Thiel is a nice guy but he did the right thing in this instance. He put his money on the case.
OMFG… This kind of ‘libertarian’ horse pucky is laughable and ultimately dangerous. Thiel’s far-right anarchism is innately anti-democratic by design. It is de facto neo-feudal rule by moneyed elites and that is, in fact, the desired end state (and ultimate of all policy priorities) of most supporters of this loony tune ideology, and all the fluff about “liberty” and “freedom” is just to attract True Believers ( idiotic saps) to the cause. It’s “Lord of the Flies” for billionaires.
Oh…and those ‘floating libertarian countries’??? Those are Fantasy Islands for Paultards, and I say send em’ there ASAP.

Gawker is trying to distract the stupid media with the Peter Thiel story as a red herring to avoid paying money. Gawker should be held accountable for their crimes. Gawker had its day in court and American courts go overboard to protect even frivolous public interest stories and religious liberties.
I don’t have a problem with Gawker being destroyed if that’s what it takes to hold them accountable.
