The truth has a way of coming out eventually.

I may disagree with Peter Thiel politically but I really donā€™t have a problem with him funding the Gawker lawsuit, There is an important principle at stake here. You cannot have journalists and media companies posting sex videos to blackmail people. Gawker did something fundamentally evil and is simply trying to distract the media about their culpability. They had their day in court. They should pay the punitive damages or go to prison. Even in corporate terms, they made a product that was egregiously defective that was intended to hurt people.

Besides corporations and corporate associations fund cases all the time.

Typical. The Libertarian billionaire using his sackfuls of loot (acquired under our current non-Libertarian system) to fund campaigns of mischief. In Oā€™Keefeā€™s case, criminal mischief. If these Libertarian kooks enjoy the idea of total ā€œfreedom,ā€ they should be pleased to accept voluntary exile to a Libertarian paradise like Somalia.

Iā€™d humbly disagree about what the principle at stake here is. What I think it is is one of hypocrisy.

Celebrities and politicians who say one thing, but do another, are most certainly subject to review of their behavior.

If he hadnā€™t been hypocritical, then I would agree that gawker should not have published. But he did, and they had the tape to prove it.

A guy with two collage degrees that does not believe in education. Hates the political process but funds political campaigns. Disdains big government but helps them spy on you. This guy makes no sense. It sounds like he is totally screwed up in the head.

He despises government, but makes a ton of money on government contracts.

He hates politics, but bankrolls a host of politicians.

He hates government intrusion, but co-founded a data mining company that allows for exactly that.

Another brilliant guy without a shred of common sense.

We have to disagree, Gawkerā€™s claim that Hulk Hoganā€™s sex with his best friends wife was public interest because he was wrestler from 20 years ago is completely bogus. Big steaming pile of santorum. Corporations have to be held accountable for their actions.

Sorry. I didnā€™t see your post prior to posting mine.

Serendipitoussleeper may be sincere, but it looks to me like a paid piece of propaganda.

Sure attack the messenger and make the facts fit the prejudices.

If Gawker had a such a great public interest story about Hulk Hoganā€™ s sex with his best friendā€™s wife, why did it not write a New Yorker style article why that sex was so important to the public interest. That would call for minimal amount of journalistic skill.

An unanticipated side-effect of Republican Party economic policy and the burst of attention that Ayn Rand got as a result of the Teabaggersā€™ publicity, no doubt

Gee, I canā€™t imagine why ANYONE would want to go after Gawkerā€¦

and depending on what side of the fence that oneā€™s on, folks still often question that type of involvement. Plus Thielā€™s involvement in this matter isnā€™t really altruistic

Somewhat agreed, but while its clear who made the video; the major question is now: how did Gawker get their hands on that video? Now Gawker reportedly didnā€™t hack either Hogan or Bubba, so that video came from which party?

Please remember that the next time a media organ (spits on the floor) is involved in a similar case.

carefulā€¦

same with Serend

Thielā€™s motives arenā€™t based off of kindness and light.

Neither are Gawkerā€™s. Theyā€™re outstanding hypocrites.

The sex tape issue is now the train that has left the station. Until someone basically finds out how Gawker got that tapeā€¦

The issue in question is this: Gawker and Hogan technically had a back and forward feud over the tape. Now everyone knew about the tape at this point, even Vince McMahon. However no one had a clue about the racial content on the tape (except for the legal parties) and it was the racial content that essentially got Hogan canned from ā€˜Vince-landā€™ (though why Trump is still a WWE HOF member still boggles the mind).
