Discussion for article #235074
Spot on, Josh. I’ll just repeat what I said yesterday, commenting on the Jewish Week article where Ron Dermer told leading Democratic Senators that if there was no deal, the current tension between Israel and the US would ease:
"Netanyahu’s (and he is Netanyhu’s) Ambassador to the US has made it clear that the only acceptable deal to Netanyahu is no deal. Well, that’s not acceptable to the majority of Americans, or our negotiating partners, and since he doesn’t have a rational alternative to the deal still being finalized, his views should be discounted.
Also, I suspect the real reason Netanyahu and his right wing colleagues don’t want a deal is that taking Iran off the front burner puts the focus squarely back on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and we already know how Mr. Netanyahu feels about that."
I realize the Prime Minister is deeply and truly concerned about the safety of Israel, as are many, even most Americans. But for whatever reason, his judgement is impaired and I believe he and his enablers aren’t acting in the best interest of their country.

I wouldn’t be too certain about that. If Israel was safe, Netanyahu would be out of a job extremely quickly. Much like Dick Cheney, he not only has an interest in stirring up fear and paranoia, but has demonstrated a willingness to do so openly.
