To gun advocate radicals (which is pretty much all of them) mass shootings are simply acceptable losses. The unassailable statistics prove that gun control or registration drastically lowers deaths by guns (go figure!). Since gun freaks love the romantic notion of guns being the arbiters of all disputes, they resolutely refuse to acknowledge data that proves they are wrong. If widespread gun possession means mass murders…so be it.

And that’s what will help turn the tide, IMHO. If you’re interested, check out sites that work on gun control at the state level. I also am one person on petitions that have caused Wal-Mart to pledge to not sale guns before the background check (remember that loophole?) or caused Target to post “no guns”. For those opposed to open carry in a grocery store of all places, think about signing this petition:

Here’s the latest on Maryland’s 2013 gun control legislation:
“Maryland’s gun murder rate has dropped 22 percent since it passed stricter gun legislation. The 2013 laws, which banned certain assault rifles and required fingerprinting and licenses for handgun sales, were passed in response to the Sandy Hook massacre. The decrease appears in FBI statistics from 2014, the first full year the laws were in effect. Maryland’s overall murder rate fell 19 percent during that time period.”

This final passage in the article is the problem;
“But it’s important to understand that according to the Cult of the Second Amendment, opponents of gun measures have every right to fire back, literally”.
This mentality of, lets start shooting at each other to solve our differences is a lose/lose. It’s the Hatfields and McCoys, a thousand year war with no winner but lots of dead.
Thinking like this regresses us back to the most base form of life. We have got to be smarter than this, at least the majority anyways and in America, the majority should be able to do the right thing.
The gun wackos are like all wackos, louder and angrier but they are not the majority when it comes to opinion or governing the masses. They can shoot while we legislate, that is the only way to have societal sanity. Americans killing each other for the right to keep killing each other is dumb squared.

Isn’t this really a base fear? That the gun nuts will actually start coming out and shooting (I mean more so)? I was thinking it’s almost the same logic that goes into women (and men) who are abused. They are afraid if they call the police or take action, the consequences will be that much worse because their abuser is now angry. It feels like a similar parallel.

I read an article which indicated there was a “Drill” (??FEMA??) a day or couple of days prior to the shootings and more articles have come out that the “vet” with pictures in the hospital with 7 gun shot wounds was a crisis player and the hospital pixs take the day prior to the shootings.
When you have folks arguing that pro-2nd-Amendment sentiments are also part of the “false flag” operation, well. They are living in a hall of mirrors, and it’s going to be awfully hard to extricate some of them from it.

Josh seems to be calling Obama and Clinton “progressives” in the link. There must be a more accurate way of describing them and what they are doing.
It seems to me that militia as ‘armed bulwark’ against a tyrannical central government is actually a better Scalian constitutional argument than the individual right to ‘bear arms’ while understanding that it is madness to hold the position. For his part, George Washington did not think much of militia as a worthy fighting force. Here is a link that concedes the second point while asserting the first.

I would love to see the sputtering from the Republican right if organizations like black lives matter started to get all gung ho about their 2nd amendment rights. How fast would they change their tune if some wealthy group arrived down in some place like Ferguson with semi-truck loads of weapons and started passing them out without background checks and calling for their use against government tyranny.
Gun control was a non-starter in California in the 1960s until the Black Panthers started to arm themselves. Then Governor Ronald Reagan couldn’t get gun control measures passed fast enough. The only thing that will bring about reasonable gun control laws in this country is if non-white people start to openly arm themselves and start carrying weapons in white areas.
