Why not call a lie a lie? Fib is much too soft a word.
I thought for a moment that âFibâ might have fit the space for headline better, but no.
On the other hand, it does capture a certain childishness on the part of the GOP. Theyâre really good at throwing temper tantrums and refusing to take responsibility for anything. I have an 8-year-old like that.
Thatâs what I came on here to say. Iâm glad other people are saying it, that means itâs pretty damn obvious that calling it a fib is ludicrous.
âGet real TPM.â
In our house fibs were LIES!
Theyâre not going to drop the ball, just release their grip on it and make sure nothing else lies below.
I already knew they were lying. For me, the news nugget here is the extent to which citizens of the U.S. now hold government representatives responsible for healthcare. No one is saying the government should stay out of healthcare. The conversation is no longer about whether government has a role in healthcare but rather the quality and affordability of that care.
The web sites Think Progress and The New Republic are calling the Republicanâs lies what they are - LIES! I am disappointed that TPM chose to call them fibs.
My guess is that these people will say anything that they think makes them look like statesmen because they know that the billâas writtenâwill never become law. A Senate bill, whether better or worse, will allow people like Scalise to say, "Our version of the bill was much better; too bad it was changed,ââ and the lie will continue.
I dunnoâŚmy 8 yr old grandson is not given to fibs. Or lies. Heâs crafty and stays silent.
The faux-religious GOP a-holes who run around professing to be oh-so-concerned about life, liberty, blah, blah, blah, should be confronted with their own theology. Their bible says something along the lines of âno man can serve two mastersâ; true and pertinent. These GOP turds know that voters are not their masters; Big Insurance, Big Pharma, Big Business are their true masters. Thatâs why this entire charade is so enraging. The GOP really doesnât care a lick about constituentsâ health care access; it cares only about being re-elected and about getting the perks that come with the office. Who the hell would care if other people have health care as long as Congress gets health care at taxpayer expense? 2018 cannot come fast enough so we can vote these snakes out of their cushy sinecures.
I visited a relative in rural WV over the weekend. She has retired there from the DC area.
We hung out w/ a number of her neighbors who live in the area and are from WV.
Here were my takeaways.
- My cousin used to be a doctor and she said that she sees people in their 40âs and 50âs losing their jobs (being phased out for younger, cheaper employees or else their industry has changed) and cannot find work often b/c of ageism.
And then the current administration and congress come along and take away their health insurance or raise the rates and she asked how they are to pay for this if they canât find work? And in the case of Work for Medicaid, what if they live in areas where jobs are scarce, even the lowest paid retail jobs. I can see this being reality in a rural area like hers. - We had dinner one night w/ a local cop and some EMTâs and they talked about the increase in drug dealing, addiction and the sorts of violent deaths that come as a result (OD, drunk/drug driving, suicide, domestic violence/revenge killing, drug dealers staking out their territory). But the (young) cop told me the thing that had made their job less safe is open carry. I asked him why the police do not speak up more about this and he said that the people who make the laws donât listen or care.
- It felt like a tale of two towns, just in their areaâŚa part of the mountain that was doing ok and the other side where it sounded lawless.
- We didnât speak directly about Trump. I do not know how they voted. But separately a few of them expressed anger towards what is happening in Washington nowâŚone of them talked about the local national parks and how they are worried theyâll be ruined by the people in Washington.
It left me w/ some hope. If the Dems can get their act together and get volunteers locally but also regionally to go into some of these areas and reach out to people, I think we can take some power back in 2018âŚbut as I have said before, a lot of it has to do more w/ listening to them about whatâs importantâŚconversing with, rather than talking at them about things we have decided are important to them. And then working w/ them to get people into office who will actually make changes.
My cousin said on a couple of occasions that she thinks we are ripe for a revolution (and I donât think she meant that in an unhinged way)âŚ
Funding tax cuts for multi-millionaires and billionaires through cuts to medical care for the most vulnerable of our citizenry: UNCONSCIONABLE!
Trump was elected by espousing to be an advocate for âthe forgotten.â Now he and the Repubs are forgetting the so-called forgotten. Trump loyalists: Feeling snookered yet?
Oh, donât worry. They will continue in perpetuity to blame Fmr. Pres. Obama, Hillary, the liberal media, and other Rush/Fox-promoted boogeymen for all of their problems. To do otherwise would be to confront their massive wall of cognitive dissonance.
Revolution or back to the days of the late 1800âs - early 1900âs: Assassinations of millionaires/billionaires and bombings of the symbols of Capitalism.
See Wall St. bombing, LA Times bombing, etc.
Something about âthose who forget historyâ comes to mind.
This is not a trivial point: you have to avoid using crap words like âFibsâ if you want to retain your readers.
Enemies of the People!
Republicans wonât be happy until we are all chained to plows, penniless, and dying in the streets. I consider every Republican voter my enemy, and an anti-American fascist-anarchist. Iâd be happy for someone to convince me otherwise!
Trump is very hurt by his lack of accomplishments in his first 100 days so he decided he would chalk up a win by getting this piece of crap legislation passed in the House. He pushed and forced enough GOPâers to change their votes and fed them lines to spout. Biggest #LOSER ever.
