Convenient reference for the GOP/Teatroll template for executive and legislative actions for the next couple years in states they still control:

Yes, next stop: “interposition” and a slew of “religious freedom” actions that encourage and sanction discrimination against the LGBT community as punishment and revenge. Frankly, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear a GOPer/Teatrolls refer to this as “Rainbow Friday,” echoing the “Black Monday” idiocy from the 50’s.

I sincerely hope that someone who sincerely holds a belief that marriage equality is wrong is not forced to get married.

Seriously, who is being forced to violate their religious beliefs?

“Five Justices on the Supreme Court have imposed on the entire country their personal views on an issue that the Constitution and the Court’s previous decisions reserve to the people of the States,” [Abbott] said."

But enough about Bush v. Gore.

“Displays of hate and intolerance against people of faith should be denounced by all people of good will”. The only hate and intolerance displayed here is by the alleged people of faith. If you have a problem with gay marriage, don’t marry a gay person.

“the law’s promise of religious liberty will be tested by some who seek to silence and marginalize those whose conscience will not allow them to participate in or endorse marriages that are incompatible with their religious beliefs.”
So you SUPPORT any KKK member who refuses to allow a Black Man to marry a White Women in Texas?
Or a JEW to marry a CHRISTIAN?
Or a MUSLIM to exist at all?
I know you are “only” the Governor of Texas, which has pretty low requirements (i.e.: Money) but even you should see the writing on the CONSTITUTION (oh, that’s right, you don’t think TEXAS is required to follow the Constitution because you think it’s a sovereign nation.)

Wtf is he babbling about? What abuse are christians getting? Is pointing out hypocritical stances abuse? Pointing out holes in logic? Or is it that whole thing about gay wedding cakes? What is a gay wedding cake, anyway?

Anyhow, what exactly is this directive going to do? What impact on governance/business is it going to have? Is he attempting to set up a society that will allow gays to marry, and then deny them access to facilities and businesses afterwards? Is he going for the next Jim Crow era? What shall we call this?

If a state like Utah can adopt marriage equality and do so civilly, I think that Texas, Mississippi, and the like can do the same.

I’m amazed he had time for this. Isn’t he on the border monitoring U.S. military exercises?

“The law protects religious liberty not only in houses of worship—but also in schools, in businesses, in the military, in public forums, and in the town square. These protections are afforded to all people, of all faiths,” Abbott wrote in the directive.

Gee, even to me and my Unitarian Universalist faith, right, Guv?

OMG! I’m doing serious guffawing right about now. Have to send it to my Democratic friend in Texas who lives in a crazy religious wing nut R town, or is that redundant.

The genuinely smart one came before dubya, and that was Ann Richards. They’re sort of devolving now.

You know…I wouldn’t even be surprised if they start organizing protests and doing things like attempting to block entry to town halls or whatever in order to force Obama to use the National Guard the way Eisenhower had to…all just to self-fulfill their prophecies of tyranny.

Gotta have something to practice on. They can’t no longer do them things to the coloreds, you know. Even Texass Jesus doesn’t want to break Caesar’s laws.

Ammo costs money and these folks are as tight as skin on a wiener. Gay people, for example, tip.

Most gay men I’ve known have become my very best friends, and the lesbians I’ve known help with repairs around the house .

I too lament the loss of religious freedom that is especially evident in mid December when everywhere you go, the malls, town squares and shops, there is not a single sign of the Catholic and Jewish holidays that I hear are happening around that time.
