Discussion: Texas Governor Activates Entire State National Guard To Respond To Storm

Texans evacuate flooded homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

I knew that tRump made money off a hurricane and here 'tis…

Flashback: Trump took $17 million payout for hurricane damage that reportedly only cost $3,000

And hows about this Man of Dog?

‘Houston needs you’: Social media rains scorn on Joel Osteen for closing megachurch after hurricane

I guess he doesn’t want the unwashed to dirty his beautiful carpet.

Hey the good news is Donald believes hurricane victims deserve a lot of help…well at least when it goes to him…

What about the Texas State Guard, those brave Patriots who saved Texas from the UN troops during the Jade Helm exercise? Have they been activated?

Has anyone checked with Alex Jones? Maybe Harvey is just another “false flag” operation.

Why did he wait until today?

How many are still in Iraq or Afghanistan?

A day late and a dollar short. Holy crap. These guys should have been on the ground in Houston on Thursday last. What about Dr. Hal Needham’s catastrophic flood warning did the Texas government not get?

Oh, yeah. Science.

I hear Donald is now sending in tanks and grenade launchers to the local police to lay down Trump’s Abuse of Power Doctrine and will pardon any NeoNazi that uses it against people of color under the guise of potential looting.

Yeah I bet with no power for weeks a lot of low life will be looting stores to survive…scum bags, why can’t they suffer an honest death of starvation!?

For non-Texas friends, #Harvey is four major disasters:

  1. Wind devastation and flooding on the coast from Corpus north (e.g Rockport, Port A);

  2. Houston flooding. I’ve read that all roads out of Houston are flooded, this is why responders / aid can’t reach those in need except via boat / air.

  3. East Texas flooding;

  4. Triangle of Houston / Austin / San Antonio (area size of Lake Michigan) flooding;

I heard on NPR that when rain stops Houston can drain in about 24 hours.

However #3 and #4 have to drain and #3 esp drains through… Houston.

And I don’t think Texas (in historical times) has ever had nine trillion gallons dumped onto a subset of the state over a 48 hour period.

1 in 1e6.

Update: Correction: trillion, not million gallons. That’s a four square mile area two miles high.

Right. Seems like a good place to share this recent parody video (‘It Confounds the Science’) - as your post demonstrates how actions based on the underlying message of the video - can be horrifically dangerous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZDYhQ4UAnA

What Abbott said: “It is imperative that we do everything possible to protect the lives and safety of people across the state of Texas as we continue to face the aftermath of this storm.”

What Abbott was thinking: “It is imperative that we do everything possible to protect the lives and safety of rich, white people across the state of Texas as we continue to discriminate against people of color, women, and the LGBTQ community."

Into this state of emergency where lives are at stake Trump and wife are going to visit tomorrow at the very real cost of diverted resources? What a narcissist looking for a photo op. Too bad some folks will suffer longer or maybe even sacrifice their lives for this grandstanding.

F your photo ops, people need real help.

All Abbott has to do is publicly request Trump postpone his visit until the roads and airports are reopened. This is a no-brainer.

Here’s the problem - all roads in / out of Houston are under water. Southeast Texas is under water. And #Harvey is still ongoing.

Responders / aid can’t get to people except via boat and air.

ETA:

Other than Trump coming to Texas right now there’s no politics in TX (for the people on the ground at least). AFAIK Houston officials and Abbott stopped pointing fingers re: evac or not by Sunday sometime when became clear that now the problem is how to help those stranded (honestly, how do you evac 4-6.5 million people? Where would they go?)

I can’t wait for all this disaster stuff to be over with so we can get back to important stuff like transgender bathrooms and open carry at UT…you know? /s

And some estimates put the total (when it’s – dear lord soon – over) to be up to 25 trillion gallons.

You know when Abbott has to call another special session to deal with Harvey’s aftermath, Patrick will want that attached…

Wondering where all those folks that worked to derail the Rebuild Houston Drainage Fee will be on the other end of this.
