Discussion: Texas AG Seeks To Block 'Frivolous' Lawsuit Against Campus Carry Law

I have two degrees from UT Austin. I live back in Texas, after a wonderful interlude in Canada. I watched while this bill was shoved through the legislature. Every single law enforcement agency in the state was against this. There was never any mention of what powers were behind this push. Abbott and Patrick railroaded their party into it. I still wonder why. My dream is to have this lawsuit go forward and that some court at some point will decide that we the people have a right to live in safety.

I cannot imagine going to school with armed classmates. Neither can I imagine allowing a child of mine to go to a school that has to allow this. My dean (architecture) resigned over this. What professor in her right mind would take up a new position at this school, knowing her students could be armed? Because, of course the concealed carrying types are the most unhinged of our population. My theory is that this bill is from the anti-public education crowd, and is one way to take down a top ranked public university.

This one is cool too.

Ya gotta admit – these Texas politicians take a good mug shot.

Frivolous my ass. Paxton is a bottom feeder. Short and simple.

yeah… they need a piece 'cause ya never tell when a food fight will break out in the cafeteria…

Well, so much for the “smaller government” argument.

In GOP-controlled states, cities are not allowed to set their own policies, if they go against what conservatives want: that was the trigger, if I remember, for NC’s bathroom bill, other states’ “no minimum wage” bills, and now this.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton ® on Monday sought to dismiss what
he called a “frivolous” preliminary injunction requested by three
faculty members at the University of Texas who want the ability to make
their classrooms gun-free zones now that concealed carry is allowed at
public universities.

Frivolous?
Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the Texas Tower massacre on that very campus and sadly yesterday the law allowing guns on that campus became effective. Optics are not in the Texas lexicon.

I understood that as “schools” are different than “universities”… but I have NOT read the bill.

The Texas legislature draws the line at guns in their personal offices and in their legislative chamber I bet’cha. Cowards.

I never want to wish anyone harm, but maybe this retard should be the first victem of gun violence on a Univ. of texas campus.

If Paxton thinks its so safe with guns in the classroom, he should quit and start teaching at UT. Oh, that’s right, his ass is about one minute from prison.

Texas classroom:

Some of us live here and fight the good fight on the front lines.

There’s a country song whose title ends with “If X is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.”

Yes, I can. I am one. In a TX state university.

Fair enough, but you seem very few and far between these days. Me, I miss the days of Anne Richards and Molly Ivins.

Soldier on!

You are supposed to be in jail, Paxton. You’re a fucking criminal which would follow since Greg Abbott has the most corrupt bunch of lunatics of all time around him.

It’s sickening.

Even though there are many Democratic leaning voters, including many Hispanic and other minorities, there is also a lot of hurdles to voting in those areas. Polls in out of the way places, with limited parking and INS agents sitting out front and open carry “poll watchers.” Based solely on the numbers you may think it will turn blue sooner that it probably will.

Paxton’s sincerely held belief is if there were just a few Charles Whitmans, Austin would be a better (read: less liberal and ‘colored’) place :fist:

Tens of thousands of armed students will assure there will be no repeat of the Texas Tower massacre because the NRA’s “good guy with a gun” has never failed to stop a mass murderer.

Chauncey Gardner was an innocent. This asshole, not so much.
