For what I can tell, it’s the Pakis that hate the Indians, Most Indians are happy to ignore Pakistan. But the Military Inter Service Intelligence agency (ISI) seems to believe that is their purpose in live to raise and support militant groups be Kashmiri or Taliban. The US unwisely has tolerated ISI so far, because they helped with the support of the Mujaheddin in the soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Lets not forget the Osama Bin Laden was hiding in a city in Pakistan that has huge military presence, hard to believe that ISI was not involved.
I distinctly remember an adjunct back in my undergrad days warning my class that we would all live to see another nuclear strike between nations, specifically between Pakistan and India. They really, really do not like each other. Kashmir is just the tip of the conflict between those nations. This news today does not surprise me at all. It’s a shame, too, because Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Yes and No. I’m really not disagreeing with you. However, there is more to the “chicken and egg” argument here than just blaming religion. When groups of allegedly religious peoples hate each other, they continue to hate each other because they hate each other; any slight increases their ire. They use their respective religions to validate their hatred and provide a degree of false righteous indignation and justification. Even if both cultures had no religion, their differences…whether cultural or tribal…would be enough to set them off, especially when highly prized land is involved along with a sense of having been wronged.
Yes, and I believe this powder keg has a lot more BOOM in it than Israel versus Israel’s neighbors. Pakistan and India just might set off WWIII. And our pResidon’t ain’t up to the task…not even within two orders of magnitude of the talent required to deal with this.
