Discussion: Tenn. Cop's Gun Stolen After He Leaves It Behind In Mall Bathroom

Discussion for article #228696

How is it that the gun is “stolen” if the cop forgot it in a bathroom? Do we automatically become thieves as soon as we find something?

BS. He probably shot someone and then the gun was “stolen”. Very convenient that the “security” cams were broken. And, this guy is part of “security”?

There’s a reason Andy made Barney keep his bullet in his shirt pocket.

That must’ve been a very large bathroom for him to have had his gun stolen out of his car in there.
Not to mention:
Lester Hobbs. A cop-name straight out of redneck central casting.

He was too busy polishing his gun to worry about the whereabouts of his pistol.

AGREE - “stolen” ? I somebody took off their wristwatch to wash their hands and then left it behind on the counter - departed the restroom … then came back and it was gone … it would seem to be a bit of a stretch to proclaim it “STOLEN” ??

  • check the lost & found … 'cause it would seem that maybe the item was “lost” .

Why didn’t he place it in the toilet tank tightly wrapped in waterproof plastic bags? Or secure it to his holster with a lanyard; why have lanyards lost popularity?

Polishing his gun, you say?..methinks he was polishing his tiny nubbin while fantasizing about joining the Ferguson P.D.

Someone really needs their wrist slapped over this.

Security cameras in the part of the mall where the gun went missing weren’t working at the time

They’ll have to check his hidden camera feed from inside the bathroom that goes to his private computer at home. Fortunately, he sounds like the kind of creep who records everything.

Gotta say, turning in a gun to the lost and found might way more interesting than most people want.

Mall security. Why are they arming these people?

ISIS might attack Talbots!

I fear for this officer’s life the next time he passes a black man sitting in his car just minding his own business. How will the officer pre-self-defend himself?

Maybe rather than it being “stolen”, some RESPONSIBLE citizen merely locked it up in a SAFE PLACE to protect kids from idiot cops that leave loaded guns lying around.

This guy needs to be fired at a minimum.

petty and small minded person that I am -

Did anyone else wonder if “Lester Hobbs” could have easily been a cousin of “Barney Fife”?

Stolen? I bet he sold it for meth.

If you find a wallet on the ground with cash and keep it, it’s theft and you can be arrested for it. Life isn’t a video game where it’s typical to find guns, ammo, and first aid kits lying around to snag. Trust me, I’ve looked.

Some items are obviously too important for the Law of Finders Keepers to apply, and that definitely is the case for guns. If you find a gun, turn it in. And if you keep it, it’s stolen property.

Will the “responsible” gun owner be brought up on charges for his negligence? I hope so. A person leaves their gate open a child drowns in their pool…lawsuits and charges. You misplace your gun while you’re taking a dump, eh, $hit happens…nothing to see here.
